About

The GBHI Difference

Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute (GBHI) is a state of the art, 118-bed acute care psychiatric hospital offering comprehensive mental healthcare programs and services for adults, teens and seniors. In addition to offering inpatient acute care services, we provide outpatient programs that help support patients as they discharge or as an alternative to hospitalization. Our hospital provides a safe environment staffed by caring and highly educated professionals where we support a person-centered treatment program that promotes stabilization and healing. Our staff works with each patient individually, addressing each of his or her unique needs through an integrated approach. Our multidisciplinary treatment team includes physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, adjunctive therapists, and dieticians. Patients gain skills in developing healthy boundaries, learning how to appropriately express emotions, using effective communication skills, increasing self-esteem, managing anger, and developing life skills. GBHI will serve as an essential component of a recovery-oriented system of care where individuals can learn to live successfully in recovery with a serious mental illness and where families can gain knowledge and coping mechanisms to support their loved ones and themselves. Our evidence-based programs are designed to help individuals live healthy, satisfying and self-directed lives.

Adult Inpatient and Outpatient Programming

Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute's adult inpatient program offers a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for adults (age 18 and older) with acute psychiatric issues. Our treatment team provides 24-hour monitoring, treatment and stabilization for patients who commonly suffer from: Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis/Schizophrenia, Anxiety, Substance-related disorders with psychiatric symptoms and Detoxification. Adult Inpatient care is designed to stabilize patients as quickly as possible and return them to an improved level of functioning. Our treatment team includes psychiatrists, internists, registered nurses, case managers/social workers, dieticians and activity therapists. Our treatment program includes group and family therapy, medication management and a variety of other unit activities including recreation and expressive therapies such as Motivational Enhancement Therapy. Case Management staff provide discharge services and arrange follow-up care in the community. Our adult outpatient programs are for those who do not require the 24 hour supervision provided by an inpatient program. Our lntensive Outpatient Program provides therapeutic support three days a week and offers patients an opportunity to receive continued support as they heal at home and in the community. GBHI offers a traditional psychiatric Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a Chemical Dependency Intensive Outpatient Program (CD-IOP).

Adolescent Inpatient and Outpatient Prorgamming

These programs are designed to help teens (12-17) and their families in the complex process of identifying psychological problems and building upon inherent strengths to change behaviors and thought patterns into pathways for healthy growth. Building resiliency, self-reflection, empathy, affect regulation and mindfulness lay the foundation for this pathway. Our Inpatient program provides a therapeutic milieu and aids in building skills designed to help teens engage and communicate in healthy and effective ways. Our comfortable unit gives teens a safe and light-filled space to heal. Our team of highly educated and caring staff will assist each teen in becoming comfortable with the daily routine and schedule. Teens will spend each day engaged in a variety of groups but will also leave the unit for meals, gym time, recreational activities and time outdoors (permitting good weather). Program Components Include: Individual and group therapy, Family therapy,Expressive art and recreational therapy. Our Intensive outpatient program and partial hospitalization program is for those teens who do not require the 24-hour supervision provided by an inpatient program. GBHI's outpatient programs are for the adolescent who has achieved some stability, but continues to need intensive treatment. Transportation is offered.
