About Our Facility

For over 10 years we have been helping teens and their families like yours build relationships and find success at our therapeutically intense residential treatment center. We are located in Mapleton, Utah on a 20-acre working ranch. Our open campus serves students ages 13-18 who have been diagnosed with a variety of emotional and behavioral issues such as ADHD, oppositional defiance, depression, adoption issues, substance abuse, and other complex problems. As pioneers in the experiential program industry, our program includes equine therapy, animal husbandry, ropes courses, sports, community service, and academics. Each of these therapeutic tools helps us make every moment a teaching moment where Discovery students receive real-time opportunities to practice successful living skills. We offer the highest ratio of professional / student time for your teen in the industry. Our motto is "The Strength is in the Struggle."

Philosophy

Discovery Ranch helps students learn to manage their lives and their diagnoses. We do this by mentoring, modeling, and motivating students from a strength-based perspective. We create experiences that let students practice therapeutic principles all day, every day. Therapy occurs in the moment, not just in the office. Students build self-esteem and confidence as they care for bottle-fed calves, work with horses, and participate in a variety of residential activities, sports and community service projects. Discovery Ranch is a boys-only program however, we have a girls-only sister program both of which are located and run completely independent of each other residentially, therapeutically, academically, and recreationally. Co-educational activities and interaction occur throughout the year when the student has demonstrated a therapeutic readiness through level advancement and trust that they are ready to step toward normalcy with appropriate social interactions that are structured and supervised.

Discovery Ranch provides student centered academics. Students and parents work with teachers and therapists to develop a customized education plan with specific learning goals. Then, therapeutics and academics work in tandem to achieve a competency based progression. Coursework is fully accredited by the State of Utah and taught by licensed educators. Academics are complimented by remedial assistance, experiential learning activities and small learning communities. Special education and IEP/504 assistance is also available.
