Treatment for Depression

Depression is a mental illness defined by persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in usual activities. The symptoms associated with this mood disorder interfere with the ability to work, sleep, eat, or enjoy what used to be pleasurable. Having major depression can be extremely disabling and prevent a person from engaging in normal day-to-day functions. While some individuals may only experience a single episode within their lifetime, it is common for others to experience multiple episodes. Dysthymia is a form of depressive disorder that lasts at least two years. Although the symptoms of dysthymia may not be severe enough to disable a person, they can still cause an individual to have trouble functioning normally. Minor depression is diagnosed when an individual has symptoms for at least two weeks, but they are not severe enough to meet the criteria for major depression. However, men and women with minor depression should still receive treatment because they are at high risk for developing major depressive disorder. Depression is more than just a bout of the blues - it's not something you can simply snap out of. This disorder requires long term treatment for recovery.

This approach will enable you to restore a sense of hope about your recovery.

Our Intake Process

There are a number of different treatment options available in our inpatient program at North Tampa that are designed to help people suffering with depression. However, the most common form of treatment we use includes a combination of medication and therapeutic modalities. At North Tampa, we look at the whole person and make treatment plans based on your individual needs. An inpatient program is particularly effective because it provides an individual with 24 hour care and support in a controlled environment far away from the stressors of the outside world. Having the ability to escape to our calming environment allows you to focus solely on your recovery. Our highly qualified staff of doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, therapists, and support staff will be there for you every step of the way. You will work closely with this treatment team to determine a set of achievable goals and your progress will be constantly re-evaluated to ensure you are staying on track. Once your stay with us draws to a close, our discharge planners will work with you to determine the next best steps for your recovery, ensuring continuity of care.
