About Millcreek Behavioral Health
Founded in 1988, Millcreek Behavioral Health is a leading provider of intermediate care for children and adolescents who are emotionally disturbed or developmentally disabled. Located in Arkansas and created due to the overwhelming need for these kind of services for children and adolescents, Millcreek offers residential treatment that addresses the unique needs of each patient. Regardless of the level of care needed, the programs at Millcreek strive to implement the most effective and valuable treatment as possible so as to ensure patient success and improvement. Millcreek's multidisciplinary team of professionals, including psychiatrists, registered nurses, case managers, licensed clinical therapists, recreational therapists, and nutritionists, conscientiously work to guide and support patients towards wellness. This team also focuses on each patient's strengths while identifying areas requiring improvement so that positive personal growth can be achieved. With treatment planning that integrates proven and evidence-based techniques and modalities, the combination of the caring staff and methods of treating mental health conditions, such as depression, are what make Millcreek a great place to facilitate progressive change for children and adolescents.
Signs and Symptoms of Depression
Untreated depression can render a number of adverse effects for a child or adolescent. Poor school performance, negative social interactions, and the development of inappropriate coping skills, such as engaging in self-harm, are all possible outcomes when treatment is not implemented to minimize effects of depression. Furthermore, allowing depression to continue can lead to the development of other mental illnesses, experimentation with drugs or alcohol, and the possibility that such effects will carry over into adulthood. Before specific treatment is implemented to treat this mental health condition, one must first identify the symptoms of depression. Common observable symptoms of depression are social isolation from friends and loved ones, angry outbursts or temper tantrums, unexplained crying spells, reports of physical pain with no medical explanation, reports of low self-esteem, and/or the presence of self-harming behaviors. If these behaviors or emotional disturbances are present in one's child or adolescent, treatment should be sought so as to minimize the short and long-term impairments that come with depression. Luckily, once a child or adolescent has been identified as having symptoms synonymous with depression, there are effective treatment options available.
Treatment Options at Millcreek
For children and adolescents who require long-term care, Millcreek's Residential Treatment Program is available to provide medication management, a variety of group therapies, educational programming, recreational therapy, and thorough discharge planning to ensure that the most debilitating symptoms are minimized or reduced. Millcreek's Psychiatric Residential Program offers similar program features, but also includes individual therapy, schooling, and employment opportunities to build job skills. Lastly, Millcreek offers an Educational and School Based Program designed to help children and adolescents thrive in an academic setting while learning how to manage disruptive symptoms associated with mental illnesses, like depression. All three programs stress the building of new skills, such as communication skills, coping skills, and ways of managing maladaptive behaviors. This aspect, coupled with the implementation of medication to reduce symptoms if it is deemed necessary, has been proven beneficial in helping children and adolescents live happier and healthier lives. All of these elements are what make Millcreek Behavioral Health the foremost provider of effective services for children and adolescents.
