Benefits of Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a research-backed approach to treating opioid use disorder, which is the clinical term for opioid addiction. Each person who receives MAT follows an individualized care plan that includes a combination of therapy sessions and prescription medication. Research has found that when taken as directed under the guidance of a professional, medication is a safe and effective way to alleviate severe symptoms of opioid withdrawal and reduce cravings. Prescription medication is an important component of treatment because it can help a person end opioid use safely and comfortably. In counseling sessions, people can identify and adopt healthier behaviors that promote an enhanced quality of life. Therapy gives people a chance to develop productive coping skills as well as an opportunity to connect with others who understand what they are going through. MAT has been closely studied for decades and is endorsed by respected organizations like the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) as an effective way to help people sustain opioid addiction recovery.
What To Expect
Seeking a better understanding of what to expect when you participate in a MAT program can help you prepare for success during treatment. To learn more about the premier MAT services offered at Cumberland Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC), we encourage you to reach out to our knowledgeable admissions staff at your convenience. Our program is available for adults age 18 and older who are battling addictions to prescription painkillers, heroin, and other opioids. Before you receive MAT at our CTC, you’ll take part in an initial assessment to help us learn more about your unique needs and background. We will use the information gathered during this evaluation to determine the best medication for you. At our treatment center, we prescribe Suboxone or buprenorphine depending on each patient’s needs. Adults who receive care at our facility also participate in individual and group counseling sessions that can provide them with invaluable emotional support. During therapy, you can learn from the experiences of others while practicing relapse prevention skills that can help you take strides toward long-term recovery.
