Adult Intensive Outpatient Program
Covington Behavioral Health Hospital, which is located in Covington, Louisiana, provides an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults age 18 and older. Our IOP serves people who have anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or other mental health concerns. A person may step down to our IOP to receive additional support after they have completed our inpatient program, or they can enter directly at the IOP level. This level of care is designed for people who do not need full days of treatment or round-the-clock support. A typical day includes three hours of therapy, plus lunch. Most clients attend IOP sessions two or three days per week. When they are not taking part in IOP sessions, participants may go to school, work, volunteer, and otherwise engage in a healthy independent lifestyle. This schedule allows people to learn new skills they can practice in a real-world environment and improve during future IOP sessions. Typical length of stay is four to 12 weeks. Treatment Approach
Our approach to treatment is guided by our unwavering belief that everyone deserves to receive customized care provided in a dignified and respectful manner. Before someone begins treatment in our IOP, we assess their needs and develop a personalized plan to guide their care. Group therapy is the main method of treatment we use, and each treatment day includes multiple group sessions. Groups are safe spaces where people can practice important new skills and share support with others who are working toward similar goals. All groups are led by licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) or licensed professional counselors (LPCs). IOP groups may incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other modalities as appropriate. Among their many benefits, these modalities can help people replace unproductive thought patterns and behaviors with healthier ways of thinking and acting. IOP participants may also take part in individual and family therapy sessions as needed. What to Expect
Adults who enter the intensive outpatient program at Covington Behavioral Health Hospital can expect to be in a supportive place where they are treated with respect. We understand that people who struggle with mental health disorders often experience feelings of shame or guilt, and we work diligently to help our clients achieve an improved sense of self-worth. People who take part in our IOP can also expect to work in active collaboration with treatment professionals and with other adults who are also receiving care. Building an effective personal support network can be an essential part of a person’s efforts to achieve improved mental health. The community adults can find in our IOP can help them fully understand the many benefits of both giving and receiving support. When a person nears the end of their time in our IOP, they receive a detailed discharge plan. This plan may include information about the services and resources that can help them make continued progress toward improved health.
