About

Small By Design

Vision: Empowering adults with mental illness, and those who support them, with an unrelenting optimism for recovery, purposeful involvement in the community, and an enhanced sense of meaning in life. At Colorado Recovery, we believe that a person with a mental health challenge like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or depression can get better and stay better. Our unique program helps people who identify mental health as a primary concern, they may or may not have secondary substance use issues. At our highest level of care, treatment is intensive, staff are present 24/7, and services are similar to those you would find in an inpatient hospital. Our program can be a great step down from a psychiatric hospital or an alternative to hospitalization. Upon admission, participants receive a thorough assessment with a psychiatrist and treatment team. People can stay for short-term treatment or longer-term care through transitional living, intensive outpatient services, and fun social programming. When needed, we can provide case management, resource navigation, money management, medication monitoring, life skills training, and effective career counseling.

Customized, Community-Based Care

Our Treehouse, a client-led social program, helps us foster a great sense of community among our clients. Connecting with others can often be a valuable part of recovery. Each week members participate in hikes, volunteer work, yoga, open art studio, and fun outings. Members can choose to participate in many outdoor experiences such as backpacking, snowshoeing, and hot springs visits. The program helps prepare people for success in work, school, and relationships. Our Assessment Track is a great option for someone looking for quality diagnostic clarification and guidance. Participants stay for 3 days and leave with a valuable and detailed assessment. Participants can also use the Assessment Track to see if Colorado Recovery would be a good fit for long-term care. Our Bridge to You program, a mobile mental health team, is a treatment option available to residents of Boulder. A range of mental health professionals can meet you at your home or residential facility. Programs like Bridge to You often help people stay stable and get care when there are barriers to care such as lack of mobility or resistance to treatment.

Testimonial: "My daughter has bipolar disorder and until Balsam House, we could not find a medication or treatment to stabilize her difficult situation. She was the third client at Balsam House and has been stable and happy now for thirteen years." -Father of a young woman with bipolar disorder
