Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based approach that offers a path to recovery for adults whose lives have been disrupted by addictions to heroin, morphine, prescription painkillers, and other opioids. The two main components of MAT are prescription medication and therapy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several medications for use in authorized MAT programs. These medications, which can ease many of the symptoms of opioid withdrawal, have proved to be safe when taken on either a short- or long-term basis. When a person takes one of these medications as directed by a doctor, they may find it easier to end their opioid use. Of course, medication alone cannot address the social, psychological, and behavioral aspects of opioid addiction and recovery. This is why counseling is such an important part of MAT. During counseling sessions, adults can gain valuable information about the disease of addiction. They can also identify the concerns or circumstances that may have caused them to begin abusing opioids. Counseling can then help them learn how to respond to these triggers in a healthier manner without resorting to opioid abuse.

McLean Hospital's Trauma Continuum is a Harvard Medical School affiliate that specializes in the treatment of trauma-related disorders including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Dissociative Disorders including Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) for individuals ages 18 and older. The McLean Trauma Continuum is made up of a partial hospital program and an out patient clinic. The partial hospital is a group treatment program that serves those who are just beginning their trauma recovery process and those with prior exposure to trauma treatment who may be struggling due to life circumstances or exacerbation of trauma symptoms. Although our short-term program is for individuals in acute situations, individuals who benefit most are those who have the ability and willingness to work collaboratively with our team and remain safe, medically stable and willing to communicate about substance use while in treatment. At the partial, you will learn about the intersection of trauma-related thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and physical experiences. We aim to work within an individual's comfort zone while also expanding their knowledge and repertoire of adaptive coping skills.

Square Medical Group (est. 2008) has been offering TMS treatment for depression to patients in the greater Boston area since 2016, utilizing Brainsway TMS technology. This is a safe, innovative, and effective treatment for persistent depression that has not responded to typical antidepressant medications or first-line psychotherapy treatments. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation utilizes strong magnetic pulses to regulate activity in precisely targeted brain areas. The patient is awake and alert during the 30-minute sessions, which are scheduled daily Monday through Friday for about 8 weeks.
