Adult Residential Treatment
Carolina House, located in Durham, North Carolina, provides residential eating disorder treatment for people who are struggling with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders. We also offer comprehensive treatment for people who have co-occurring mental health concerns. We provide care at two locations: Our first facility is designed for women age 17 and older, and our second facility serves adults age 18 and older of all genders. The goal of both residential treatment programs is to help people find healing and lasting freedom from the burdens of eating disorders. The average length of stay at this level of care is 30-60 days, but each person’s actual length of stay depends on their unique needs. Treatment at our facility incorporates a number of therapies, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), motivational interviewing (MI), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). While in treatment, clients can also benefit from medical care, medication management services, and individual, group, family, and experiential therapies.
Treatment Approach
At Carolina House, we believe that effective eating disorder treatment considers every client’s unique background and goals for the future. Before treatment begins, each client undergoes a comprehensive psychological, physical, and nutritional assessment so that our team can develop a personalized treatment plan for them. Our treatment team consists of highly trained physicians, psychiatrists, nursing staff, licensed therapists, dietitians, art and yoga therapists, and chefs. In our residential program, people can participate in a range of therapies, including individual, family, group, and experiential therapies, as well as receive basic medical care and medication management services. Our goal is to help clients make positive lifestyle changes that promote emotional, physical, and psychological healing. A vital aspect of treatment for clients at Carolina House is regular group therapy sessions. Compassionate members of our interdisciplinary team lead group discussions on topics such as goals and intention setting, mindfulness, life skills development, nutrition planning, and how to have a healthy body image.
Our Treatment Center
The team at Carolina House has extensive experience working with people of all backgrounds who have eating disorders. Both of our facilities feature spacious areas for group sessions, a functioning kitchen garden, and acres of woods and nature to explore. When you or a loved one participates in our residential treatment program, they can receive compassionate care in a safe and welcoming environment away from the stressors of daily life. Each client receives a care plan that is customized by our multidisciplinary team and designed to guide them through treatment. Our comprehensive approach to eating disorder treatment emphasizes the importance of diversity, individuality, and open communication. Throughout treatment, clients can learn skills to regulate their emotions, cope with triggers, and find healthier ways to manage difficult feelings. At Carolina House, we aim to empower every client to grow in self-awareness and responsibility so that they can live a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life. Call or Email
