Our programs serve as a smooth transition for teens stepping down from an inpatient or residential treatment program, or as a higher level of treatment for teens requiring more structure than just weekly outpatient therapy.
Our licensed therapists, board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, and onsite counselors are specially trained to treat teens with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, ADHD, dual diagnoses, and high-risk, self-harming and/or suicidal behaviors. Our experienced clinical staff apply evidence-based treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Behavioral Activation, and Motivational Interviewing. For teens struggling with addiction, we utilize Relapse Prevention, DBT for Substance Abuse, 12-Step support programs, and SMART Recovery. Because Newport’s philosophy of care views family as central to long-term, sustainable healing, the groundbreaking Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) methodology is also a central component of our approach.
As one of the country’s leading top-rated rehab centers, Newport Academy prioritizes outcomes research. To fulfill our commitment to providing truly evidence-based care, we partner with world-class comprehensive research institutions to commission rigorous third-party evaluations of our programming, which consists of a minimum of 30 hours of clinical and experiential therapy each week, plus 20 hours of academic study and tutoring. To measure the impact of treatment on the teens and young adults we serve, we track a number of different treatment goals. Our research partners assess three primary areas of measurement using industry-validated survey instruments. Data on our outcomes shows consistent positive results in measures of well-being, depression, and anxiety, with patients’ improvements, on average, exceeding levels of clinical significance during and after treatment. These results clearly indicate that our integrated approach to sustainable healing is making a significant positive impact on patients and families.

The cost of treatment is one of the biggest obstacles in accessing care—and it doesn’t have to be. Many families don’t seek treatment because they don’t realize that affordable mental healthcare is an option. As recently as 20 years ago, clients were forced to pay out of pocket for mental health and substance abuse treatment. Today, many insurance payers cover outpatient and residential treatment programs, and they are much more willing to provide coverage when they know a program offers safe, effective, and clinically driven treatment. To support families in their efforts to access quality adolescent treatment, Newport Institute works with leading providers of healthcare insurance to provide financing options. We have built collaborative relationships with a wide range of healthcare payers, and are adding new In-Network partners on an ongoing basis. In addition, we excel in negotiating Single Case Agreements to allow coverage by out-of-network insurers. Our goal is to optimize the benefit coverage for families who are seeking affordable residential treatment or outpatient care.

We offer effective teen, adult, gender affirmative and LGBTQIA+ inclusive programs in our residential, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care with proven results within the first week.
Healing, growth and a positive relationship with food is possible with the Center for Discovery Dietary Program. We use the CARE Model, which stands for “consistent attuned relational eating.” This means patients have the steadiness of a dietary plan that is adaptable to what’s happening in their life. We believe in Health at Every Size because everyone can be healthy regardless of size, shape, weight or BMI. We encourage Intuitive Eating — nourishing ourselves when we’re hungry and recognizing when we feel full. We utilize the All Foods Fit model, which celebrates that all foods are nourishment, and no foods are off-limits in moderation. These core elements help our patients walk out of treatment feeling engaged, empowered and transformed so that they can manage long-term recovery. In fact, 86.5% of clients who completed treatment didn’t need to return to Center for Discovery or any other program for a higher level of care for eating disorder treatment.

To achieve long-term healing from OCD, young adults need treatment that provides relief from obsessions and compulsions, while addressing underlying causes and co-occurring mental health conditions.
It’s not unusual to experience some degree of obsessive thinking, or a strong desire for things to be a certain way. In fact, people sometimes describe themselves as OCD when they really mean that they like to be neat and organized. But if you suffer from OCD, you know that this disorder is deeply painful and upsetting. Young people with OCD are unable to turn off their disturbing and anxiety-producing thoughts. Therefore, the only way they can attempt to control these obsessions, as they are called, is by engaging in ritualistic behaviors known as compulsions. By repeating a behavior a certain number of times, ordering things in a very specific way, or otherwise obeying a set of rigid rules, they attempt to keep the anxiety of OCD at bay.
