THE BUSARA DIFFERENCE
Busara Recovery Home supports women who are maintaining their sobriety either from various substances, process addictions or both. We also support women who are struggling with their mental illness and need a more structured environment. We are honored to work with women who are determined to make a change and live life better. Our residents come to us after treatment and sometimes when they have come home from treatment and things aren't working out. We are innovative, individualized, caring, and clinically sound. Each resident recognizes that allowing themselves the time and space to become more deeply grounded and proficient in therapeutic skills and life management techniques maximizes the opportunity for long-term life success. Our residents recognize that living in a therapeutic community allows for more support and growth. Our staff are women who understand that healing takes both time and expertise. Each of our House Managers is either licensed or working toward mental health licensure. Our website will help you learn more about Busara and the way we partner with our residents.
Busara in the Swahili language means wisdom, prudence, and understanding. We want each of our residents to have an abundance of those characteristics when they leave us. Busara is decidedly unique and decidedly personal. We work best with women who want to take the time to recover and are strategic in how they want to recover. Returning back to old environments is not always the best next step in the change process. Our House Managers are trained in Psychology at the graduate level and they are skilled in a number of therapeutic tools. The one we think is most useful is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The tools of DBT help with regulating emotions and behaviors. Our House Managers work individually with each resident to make sure that they are staying on track with their daily goals, including programming, therapies, and the goals they want to achieve while they are with us and beyond. Our founder and administrator is a seasoned Clinical Psychologist who is personally involved with each resident. We want long-term change to be sustainable. And that leaving part? It's truly bittersweet for us all. We adore our residents!
