We believe that every human was born with non-negotiable, inherent, worth and value, yours cannot be earned, destroyed, lost or taken no matter what has happened to you or no matter how you may have “happened” to others. We do know that the crisis process whether it’s driven by substance use, eating disorders, mental health challenges, or trauma in myriad of expressions, rob individuals, families, and communities of being able to tap into the full aliveness of who they truly are and always have been. We believe that if you do not get underneath the symptomatic expression of suffering to the root of the problem, you may gain moments of relief but never lasting recovery. Many of us have mistaken the relief and the transient appearance of wellbeing by cutting and pruning branches on the tree of life, rather than getting down and healing the root causes of suffering. To assist you in this journey we have developed a trauma focused program that is built upon a foundation of Safety & Stabilization. Our model of Safety & Stabilization proposes that although individual expressions of eating disorder, mental health struggles and substance use show up differently (and need to be addressed individually) we find commonality by using a trauma focused lens which views both as compensatory strategies aimed at self-regulation. At Breathe all programming is built on this goal by making central these three objectives of treatment: Stabilizing within a structure of care in which to learn to release and be free from destructive compensatory survival strategies which include freedom from all forms of self-injurious behaviors including but not limited to addictive and eating disorder behaviors. Learning to recognize and anticipate dysregulation in the mind/body and learn strategies that allow you to be in the present, to utilize self and co-regulation skills. Learning to move towards safety and away from danger is a fundamental key to recovery. Your individual therapist, depending on your level of care will assist you in preparing a treatment schedule and structure that consists of group and individual therapy and consultations whether at the Canyon Campus, transitional living homes or your own home.
