Adult Intensive Outpatient Program
Ascension Saint Thomas Behavioral Health Hospital, located in Nashville, Tennessee, offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for adults age 18 and older. In our IOP, we treat a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression and posttraumatic stress disorder. Intensive outpatient programming can be beneficial for individuals who require a less intensive level of care to reach their treatment goals. We provide personalized, flexible care to help people in need learn to manage their symptoms so that they can begin to function better and improve their overall quality of life. Patients may enter the program directly or by stepping down from a higher level of care. Patients in our IOP usually remain in treatment for eight to 12 weeks depending on their needs. During this time, they take part in group therapy sessions three times each week. Led by compassionate social workers, group therapy offers a safe space where patients can engage socially with peers and learn about topics like coping skills, relationships and trauma. IOP services can bridge the gap between inpatient or residential treatment and traditional outpatient therapy. Our IOP is built around a schedule of group therapy sessions, which can include process groups and psychoeducation groups. Psychoeducation group therapy is a form of group counseling that provides individuals with an opportunity to learn about a particular topic. During process group therapy, patients can establish peer relationships while participating in meaningful discussions. Both settings offer a safe and secure space where patients can discover that they are not alone in their struggles, which can reduce feelings of isolation and lead to improved well-being.
