Who is our typical student?
Most students that attend Alpine Academy experience severe anxiety and/or depression. This impedes their ability to function successfully at home, in school, and with friends. Trauma has touched their lives in such a way that many have a hard time getting to the root of the problem and learning to express their overwhelming emotions in a healthy manner. Typically our students are bright and capable in school, but emotional disturbances prevent them from being successful in the classroom and in relationships with peers. Oftentimes this leads to them avoiding school and in-person social interaction, opting instead to immerse themselves in the online world of social media and gaming. Our students tend to implode rather than explode, and self-harm and suicidal thoughts, gestures, and attempts may become ways they have coped with their pain. Generally, Alpine students have a strong desire to be able to return to the hobbies, interests, and activities that they used to enjoy doing.
How do we help?
Alpine Academy uses the Teaching-Family Model to teach students the social and emotional skills they need to be successful in relationships, at home, and in school. This evidence-based model provides training and guidance for the staff members to ensure they are following best practices and engaging with youth in a healthy, positive, and helpful manner. Our goal is to normalize the treatment process so the students are learning in a natural environment. This empowers them to be able to access the skills and tools they learn at Alpine more readily in a variety of settings when they return home. In addition to this Teaching-Family Model, our therapists employ a wide array of clinical modalities in helping students and families, including DBT, CBT, EMDR, Neurofeedback, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAGALA), Sandplay therapy, ACT, and others. Students also attend school on our campus in our fully accredited academic facility. Our dual-endorsed and highly qualified teachers use direct instruction to engage youth in the learning process.
