Benefits of Medication-Assisted Treatment
Located in Orefield, Pennsylvania, Allentown Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC) offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for adults. MAT combines the use of medication and counseling to treat patients who are struggling with opioid use disorder and give them a comprehensive treatment experience. The prescription medications used in MAT have shown to alleviate the uncomfortable physical symptoms of withdrawal, such as nausea and cravings. MAT also involves counseling that allows adults to address things like past trauma, learn how to manage negative emotions, and develop healthy coping skills. With effective medication and counseling, MAT participants can make positive behavioral changes and set the groundwork for lasting recovery.
What to Expect
Medication-assisted treatment at Allentown CTC begins with a streamlined admissions process. This involves an assessment to review a person’s medical history, past and current drug use, and goals for treatment. Based on this information, patients receive a prescription for methadone, Vivitrol, or Suboxone. A person’s care team helps determine which of these medications is right for them, as well as the appropriate dosage. Along with medication, we provide patients with personalized counseling that includes individual and group sessions. Individual counseling allows people to better understand the choices that may have led them to start using opioids, while group sessions give them the opportunity to speak with and hear from others who are facing similar struggles. Patients also receive a detailed discharge plan to help them experience success after their time in treatment with us comes to an end.
