Who We Are

We are a different kind of teen treatment center. At Newport Academy, we address the underlying causes of destructive behaviors—the trauma and abandonment wounds that catalyze depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and co-occurring issues. Our integrated approach guides teens and their families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing from mental health conditions, including maladaptive behaviors such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and self-harm. Our mission is to empower teens and restore families. Based in clinical expertise and compassionate care, our whole-person treatment model takes into account the physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs of adolescents. Across our full continuum of care, we offer a blend of evidence-based modalities and experiential therapies that address the medical and life needs of our patients. We support young people ages 12 and up in building authentic connection with self; restoring harmony in the family system; and developing supportive relationships with peers.

A Comprehensive, Customized Approach

In our evidence-based, solutions-driven treatment programs, teens work toward sustainable healing without distractions, guided by a tailored treatment plan that incorporates clinical, experiential, and holistic modalities. Our patients’ weekly schedules include individual and group therapy, utilizing Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Our approach recognizes that the family is an essential part of the healing process, and we use Attachment-Based Family Therapy to repair parent-child relationships and restore family harmony. Our team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, nurse practitioners, counselors, equine therapists, art therapists, music therapists, adventure therapists, registered dietitians, nutritionists, teachers, and more, with a wide range of degrees and experience. In experiential and expressive therapy groups, teens process emotions and memories with hands-on approaches. Adventure Therapy, which takes place in beautiful outdoor settings, is a cornerstone of our experiential offerings. Residents also spend structured time in the classroom each day, and with tutors as needed.

Industry-Leading Outcomes

By consistently gathering and analyzing data related to our outcomes, we’re able to make more strategic and tailored decisions for our patients and ensure that our care is truly evidence based. Data collected on our programs by third-party researchers, using industry-accepted assessment tools, shows consistent positive outcomes in measures of well-being, depression, and anxiety, with patients’ improvements, on average, exceeding levels of clinical significance during and after treatment. We achieve these positive long-term results by providing comprehensive and integrated treatment programs that address all aspects of an adolescent’s life—social, emotional, familial, spiritual, and academic. Treatment at Newport Academy begins with a comprehensive assessment and diagnostic interviews that inform the creation of a tailored treatment plan taking into account a patient’s psychological history, current circumstances, family situation, and learning needs, and comprising a variety of scientifically validated modalities. Our campuses and treatment are separated by gender, as research shows that this approach results in a greater commitment to healing and more effective recovery.
