The Psychological Clinic is the training facility operated by the Psychology Department of the University of South Alabama. The mission of the Psychological Clinic is to provide professional, low cost mental health services to the Mobile community. In the clinic, Clinical and Counseling PhD students receive supervised experience while providing psychological services. We endorse a scientist-practitioner model, use formulations based on both the bio-psycho-social model and wellness/resilience model, and train in evidence-based practices. We provide individual, family, couples/marital, group, and parent-child interaction (PCIT) therapies. We also provide assessments for the following: Autism Spectrum Disorder Evaluations, Psychoeducational Evaluations for Learning and Attentional Disorders (LD/ADHD), Neuropsychological Evaluations, Gifted & Talented Evaluations, Psychological Evaluations, and School or Family Observations. Some psychological services are provided directly by licensed Clinical and Counseling Psychologists. Because we are a training clinic, we can provide patients/clients with professional, confidential psychological services based on a reduced-cost sliding fee scale. We value the differences and similarities among people, and respect the multiple identities, backgrounds, and needs of the clients and communities whom we serve.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a form of opioid addiction treatment that combines the use of prescription medication with counseling services. When someone is struggling with an addiction to opioids, it can be extremely difficult to stop using. One of the hardest struggles people have is going through the withdrawal process. The process of withdrawing from opioids can be so distressing that many people return to using opioids to ease their uncomfortable symptoms. The FDA-approved medications used in MAT, however, have proved to reduce or eliminate those symptoms, which allows people to focus on beginning their recovery journeys. By adding in the counseling component, people can work on identifying triggers and developing coping skills that can help prevent future relapse. This well-rounded approach to opioid addiction treatment has saved countless lives and is supported by medical professionals and respected agencies like the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

How Treatment Centres Can Help

Treatment centers in Baldwin County help clients with substance abuse issues, drug abuse, and pain treatment, as well as eating disorders. Treatment centers generally offer 30-day recovery programs, or longer-term 60 and 90-day programs.

The first step when you arrive in treatment is to begin a drug detox or alcohol detox. Medical professionals monitor your detox program to make sure that your detox is safe and appropriate.

The second step at most treatment centers is to begin therapy, either in groups or individually. Most Baldwin County treatment centers for alcohol or drug abuse emphasize this step as the beginning of the road to recovery.

Successful treatment also includes a plan for when you leave your treatment center. Whether it is alcoholics anonymous, or engaging with family and friends, the best treatment centers in Baldwin County provide counselors who guide you in preparing a plan to stay substance-free.
