About
Opioid Addiction Specialty Clinic
Since 1982, we combine Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) with methadone and buprenorphine for people with opioid addiction with psychiatric treatments for dual/multiple diagnosis patients. Our experienced staff integrates the treatment of opioid addiction with the treatment of additional psychiatric disorders, other addictions, and chronic pain problems. We provide individual case management, educational and therapeutic groups, ear acupuncture ("acudetox"), and yoga. Our additional psychiatric treatments provided by our full time, board certified Psychiatrist including medication management and EMDR for PTSD symptoms as clinically indicated. Our affordable weekly fees include both medication and all services. We provide both long term "maintenance" treatment and short term medication tapers but longer term treatment is generally recommended as the standard of care for this chronic and relapsing disorder. Time in medication assisted treatment (MAT) is the best predictor of long term success. We also help people taper off medication when they are ready. Please call or visit our website for further information on our services and prices.
New patient assessments
New patient assessments are Monday to Thursday without appointment. Potential patients should: • Arrive between 6-7 am • Be in observable opioid withdrawal, • Bring any prescription records or referrals from treating physicians, • Bring a valid photo ID, • Expect to stay several hours for evaluation by MD and staff and observation, • Cash or money order only Cost: $120 (methadone), $150 (buprenorphine). Average weekly fees: $70 for methadone, $110 for buprenorphine. Fees vary by dose. Rapid (21 day) medical taper (“detox”): $700 for methadone, $800 for buprenorphine. Fees include medications dispensed at our clinic, individual case management (with an RN or LPC), educational and therapeutic groups, ear acupuncture, yoga, and psychiatric treatment as clinically indicated. Groups are lead by MD, LPC, or RN and address topics such as abuse/addiction, general health, mental health, trauma, cognitive and behavioral change, etc. We provide structure for patients including with observed dosing up to 6 days per week, close medical supervision, and onsite collection of drug screens.
Background on Methadone & Buprenorphine Treatment
Methadone and buprenorphine are slow onset, long acting opioid medications which are used to treat addictions to rapid onset, short acting opioids such as heroin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, fentanyl, etc. They work by keeping patients virtually free of withdrawal symptoms and cravings without leading to a “high.” Patients on a stable dose are fully functional and able to refocus on meaningful goals like work and relationships with loved ones. They are no longer considered to have an active addiction. Long term, outpatient treatment is recommended as it has been showed to have the highest success rates in keeping patients from using illicit opioids, showing other addiction behaviors, and returning to functional lives. Patients may be slowly tapered off medications under medical supervision at any time after reaching stability. Rapid “detox,” abruptly stopping opioids (“cold turkey”), and abstinence based treatments have a high rate of relapse into opioid addiction, over 90% reported in many studies. Relapse can result in deadly over doses and return to catastrophic addiction. This is especially pertinent for patients with long standing addictions & multiple failed "detoxes."
