MAT combines the use of medication and counseling to treat patients who are struggling with opioid use disorder, which is the clinical term for opioid addiction. Research has shown that the prescribed medications used in MAT, which at our center include Suboxone, methadone, and buprenorphine, help patients manage the uncomfortable physical symptoms of withdrawal. Along with medication, MAT features counseling that can help patients address any factors that may have contributed to their drug use and develop strategies to avoid opioid use in the future. During these sessions, patients can learn how to manage negative emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and unpack previous trauma.
