Under the leadership of Dr. Igor Galynker and Dr. Konstantin Nikiforov, the Galynker Family Center for Bipolar Disorder is a unique partnership of mental health professionals who are deeply committed to delivering effective care within a family-oriented therapeutic space that replaces silence and red tape with effective communication and hands-on care. We are an innovative New York City center with a seasoned team of clinicians who have decades of combined experience treating complex patients often regarded as “treatment-resistant”. Our expertise is in the management of treatment-resistant patients and acute illness episodes. Historically, and for far too long, silence has been the norm between mental health clinicians and their patients’ families. Our Center is working to change this dynamic by facilitating open communication and by providing holistic, integrated treatment for our patients and their families.

The Newport Academy philosophy of care recognizes teen behavioral issues in ages 13-20, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders, as symptoms of underlying mental health challenges, most often trauma, depression, and/or anxiety. In order for teens and families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing, treatment must address these root causes through integrated, comprehensive care that involves the entire family in the healing process. Our solutions-driven, outcomes-based approach is founded in compassion, expertise, and unconditional love. We nurture every aspect of a teen’s well-being, addressing their physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs so they can thrive when they return home and as they take the next steps toward young adulthood. To that end, we track a number of different treatment goals and commission rigorous third-party evaluations of our programming. Data on our outcomes shows consistent positive results in measures of well-being, depression, and anxiety, with patients’ improvements, on average, exceeding levels of clinical significance during and after treatment.

Milestones provides residential as well as day treatment programs for individuals suffering with Compulsive Overeating, Bulimia, Anorexia, and related disorders. We are a therapeutic community whose mission is to offer a supportive environment from which to begin a new way of life... a life way we refer to as "recovery." Milestones follows a "blended" approach to treatment - addressing both the "addictive" and emotional aspects of an eating disorder. Residents attend a full schedule of group and individual activities during the day as well as participate in various support groups during evenings and weekends. Grocery shopping, meal preparation, and "real world" experiences are an integral part of the program. Unlike a traditional hospital environment, Milestones affords an opportunity to recover in a less restrictive setting while still receiving the support and structure necessary to overcome an eating disorder. Residential Treatment accepts both local and out of area residents, with most of the program's participants coming to us from throughout the United States Located in South Florida, Milestones is near two major airports in the South Florida area.

The Psychiatry High Risk Program (PHRP) is an innovative, recovery-based, and nationally recognized outpatient program for youth and young adults (ages 14 to 40) who struggle with thoughts of suicide. The PHRP has been designated as "a best practice" in suicide prevention by the national Suicide Prevention Resource Center and has won the prestigious American Psychiatric Association’s 2023 Psychiatric Services Silver Award for innovative and effective care. Conditions that commonly occur in high risk individuals include depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, self-harm, eating disorders, and addictions. Instead of typical chronic illness management, The PHRP introduces a new and unique treatment model that attempts to break the cycle of chronicity by addressing the underlying causes of these disorders. As these underlying vulnerabilities are addressed, many individuals find transformative healing, renewed hope, and resilience to stress, and are no longer impaired by mental disorders. This innovative program has shown outstanding outcomes in published studies, attracting both regional and national attention.

FAQs - About Treatment Centers and Rehab
How can I find a treatment center in 10006?
The Psychology Today Directory has customizable search options that show potential treatment centers tailored to your location, including inpatient or outpatient, the types of insurance accepted, and even the programs the center specializes in. Finding the right treatment center can be vitally important, and the dropdown filters make it easier to find the best fit for you or your loved one.
How do treatment centers work?
There are treatment centers for individuals dealing with psychiatric issues as well as for those dealing with substance use or addiction, or who are dealing with both, also known as co-occurring disorders. The type of program that is right for an individual depends on their medical and mental health history, the severity of the issues they are dealing with, as well as their treatment goals. Individuals using the directory can filter to find a center best-suited to them based on their gender, the issues they are facing, such as addiction or a mental health condition, or the type of treatments they are seeking.
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient treatments?
In an inpatient or residential treatment program, individuals receive treatment while living in a facility and have 24/7 access to care by medical professionals. There are various forms of outpatient treatment that offer different levels of care, including Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs). PHPs tend to offer more time-intensive, supervised care than IOPs. Aftercare is another option that offers ongoing treatment for an individual recovering from substance use or addiction after they have achieved initial sobriety, which can take the form of either an inpatient or outpatient program.
How long is rehab?

How do you get someone who refuses treatment into rehab?
It is important to convey compassion and understanding toward an individual dealing with an addiction problem. If a person refuses treatment at first, it’s important for their loved ones to continue to express their concerns in a kind and respectful manner, and to periodically encourage them to get help. It can take time for someone dealing with addiction to gain the motivation to make a change. In the meantime, it can be helpful for loved ones to set boundaries with the individual and educate themselves on the many treatment options that exist in order to have more informed conversations regarding recovery.
