As a Licensed therapist, Ms. Barner is a creative and passionate mental health professional who believes that all individuals have the ability to learn and thrive successfully. Her therapeutic approach is confidential, supportive, and provides a safe place to talk about difficult things. She works on the belief that the person you are today is a combination of several factors. Some of these factors are early childhood and adult relationship experiences, genetic predisposition, and environmental factors. Her belief is that therapy is not a process that labels you, but an avenue that can help overcome life’s challenges.

Counseling is my second career. I have always been in a helping profession and my journey to becoming a clinician began as a teacher. Helping others has always been a passion of mine whether it was in the classroom or in a counseling office. In every client that I have ever had the privilege to be a part of their journey, it has always been my sincere hope that I could at least plant a seed of hope and inspiration. I see clients with various issues. I focus on teen and women issues but do see individuals for many other issues, such as trauma and depression.

I see wonderful results with the unique mindfulness methods that I incorporate into my work. I bring to my work my own personal healing of a serious binge eating disorder/sugar addiction and other issues of suffering. I am also associated with a skilled holistic psychiatrist who may help individuals with the natural management of bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety. I have worked with seemingly hopeless individuals who transformed their lives with mindfulness therapy. I offer my services out of a great sense of passion and deepest gratitude.

The skills you’ve learned to survive may not be the same that allow you to thrive. Growth takes an exceptional amount of patience, resilience, and vulnerability and seeking help is the first step towards change. Professional therapy provides the opportunity to first assess our patterns of behavior with honesty and compassion, so that we might cultivate our most authentic selves. In our shared work, I strive to create a considerate, empathetic, and empowering space dedicated to the long-term success of all clients.

Hello, I am the creator of the rapid "ROOMMATES TO ROMANCE PROGRAM" which has helped many couples improve their communication skills and their overall connection. If you are considering COUPLES COUNSELING, chances are that your most important relationship is struggling. Maybe you suffer from "roommate syndrome", or over scheduling. Or maybe you no longer have fun together or you struggle with communicating your needs. It is not easy to ask for help for your relationship. But, don't be discouraged, very few people are educated or trained in the complexities of having successful relationships. In this way, you can consider couples counseling as your "Relationship 101" course.

I care deeply about the relationship I establish with the people who come to see me in therapy. I work hard to provide clients with a safe and non-judgmental environment, in which they can feel comfortable being themselves. I know life can be difficult, but I truly believe that we all have the ability to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Knowing where to begin can be challenging , and that is what I am here for. I always work to meet clients where they are, and create a treatment plan based on their specific needs.

Accepting Medicaid (Centennial Care) and Self-pay only. My orientation is to work with both individuals and couples in a manner that considers our relatedness to life. With individuals struggling with anxiety, depression or work/life stress, I will take into account the relational factors contributing to the issues which may include environments, people, culture, expectations and roles. With couples, I consider the relational dynamics between each other, as we address ways to navigate distressing situations.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in New Mexico are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in New Mexico then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.

How to find a specialist?
You can refine your search using the filters on this page. There are several categories you can filter by to find mental health professionals with the experience you are looking for. You may want to filter for CBT Psychologists in New Mexico, or Child Psychologists in New Mexico.

What method of therapy is right for me?
