Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out… Life happens! The big secret: No one gets through it on their own. We all need the support and perspective of others to continue to learn and grow into our ever-changing, human selves. Life is a series of transitions. Let's get you through this together. My practice focuses on adolescents, and adults of all ages; mood disorders, and life transitions such as new parenthood, launching, and aging seem to be the most prevalent reasons clients seek out my support.

I connect well with some teens and most adults or couples. I find I work best with people who are invested in understanding why they feel as they do, or why they do what they do, and want a collaborative partner in exploring how to better manage the stressors in their life, whether internal or inter-relational. I have a background in anger management, which can often address problems of the underlying emotions, and help with communications skills. I tend to conceptualize from a psychodynamic perspective and educate my patients about these ideas when I think it will prove helpful.

Feeling overwhelmed or not like yourself lately? Has becoming a mom impacted your relationship? Finding yourself resentful or irritable as times? If this sounds familiar, I would love to connect for a free 15-minute consultation to discuss how I can help. I love helping women and fellow moms to overcome the symptoms of anxiety, depression, or ADHD that have pulled them away from the life that they want. I believe when we gain insight and understanding about what we are experiencing, learn effective strategies to challenge our symptoms, and have the right support, we can take back our lives and things CAN get better.

Above all "Therapy must be useful". That means that in addition to overcoming issues related to emotional trauma, depression, anxiety and troubled relationships skills are developed and applied to life's challenges. These skills include increased self awareness, handling adversity, mastering strong emotions, and developing and applying the skills necessary to achieve a gratifying and fulfilling life. In addition to Video appointments through a secure HIPPA compliant platform, which maintains a high level of confidentiality, in-person appointments can also be arranged. As a society, we understand that our physical health will fluctuate throughout life and it is common practice to take steps to prolong wellness and prevent disease. In order to be the most balanced and effective versions of ourselves we must take similar action when it comes to our mental and emotional health. Therapy is one way that we can begin to do that work. My therapeutic style is warm, compassionate and direct.

It’s been awhile since you can remember feeling genuine happiness or feel a sense of direction in your life. As far as other people know, things are going well and you have things figured out. But in reality, you feel isolated and alone because the things that keep you up at night are or from other people are difficult to express. Or the people around you are not equipped to understand what you’re going through. It may be an overwhelming fear of failure, managing parenting challenges, or managing expectations from your parents, or work.

If you are struggling with life's challanges and are seeking tools to better cope with or overcome those challanges I want to help you. The foundation of my work is the collaborative and proven effective tools of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Exploring and understanding our core beliefs and the relationship between thoughts and feelings gives us the tools to make effective change. Making a commitment to changing behaviors helps us sort out what we actually have control over and frees us from expecting others to change in order for us to be happy.

I believe: our mind & body are completely intertwined; the possibilities within every human being are limitless; and you are not your symptoms. I do not believe in limits set by a diagnosis or label for you to identify yourself by, instead I help you find your true nature, your Self, & peace within the midst of difficulty, change, loss, and the holidays! I've been a psychologist for over 30 years, yet the way I help people today is entirely different now. I use mindfulness brain-based talk therapy, and visualizations, for an integrated approach to emotional/physical/mental wellness. We focus on your current self and life as a whole.

Does your relationship feel terribly one-sided, with you constantly making sacrifices for someone without getting much in return? Often, when you wrap your life around someone else, accepting unacceptable circumstances to keep the relationship together, it can be emotionally exhausting and profoundly destructive. So, how do you change things when life is so challenging and you're alone in your efforts to fix it; when you feel completely responsible for the well-being of others at the cost of your peace of mind? Therapy is the best next step when your own efforts haven't worked out.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
