Many things
assault
our abilities to cope.
There are reasons we think or feel the way we do; sometimes feeling insane is a sign that the life we are living is insane. And sometimes, it's been going on for generations. Getting "over it" isn't the goal; understanding and making peace with it is--most of us have the ability to learn new ways of coping. Reaching out for help isn't weak, it is a strength. Learn how to live rather than simply existing.

I have experience with transitional problems,
sexual abuse
/
assault
survivors, trauma, and a wide variety of other topics.
Are you dealing with the death of a loved one? Do you simply wish you had someone to talk to who is impartial and non-judgmental? Therapy is about finding the right "fit" with a therapist, and I pride myself in creating a comfortable environment in which to foster growth. Sometimes all we need is to have a place to talk things out before we can move forward and feel better.

Relationship trauma, toxic relationships, depression, trauma, PTSD,
sexual abuse
and grief can keep us from experiencing the intimacy or happiness that we desire when those wounds haven't been healed. Carrying hurt and shame is heartbreaking and lonely. It keeps us from vulnerability, and when we're kept from vulnerability it keeps us from joy. Shame, guilt and loneliness were never meant to be yours to carry in your heart. Let's work together to process all that you've been through. I thrive when I work with these issues in my clients, because I get to see my clients grow, change and thrive.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional I work with clients who are coping with relationship issues, addictions, interpersonal issues, grief, adolescent dynamics, anxiety and general struggles feelings on inadequacy. Change is a choice – your choice! A struggle for most entails walking the walk of life in “comfortable shoes.” We have this vision of the life we are supposed to live – maybe because that is what is socially acceptable, or maybe because of the standards we have for ourselves. Life has a way of giving us a different version and that is where I can help!

Everyone goes through hardships in their lives, and many face challenges that require some outside support and aid. While friends and family are a great resource, some parts of life are too personal or overwhelming to share with these people. Reaching out for help can be intimidating and I strive to provide a safe and supportive space that allows you to attain the support and aid you need.

The voice in your head never lets up. “You’re broken.” “You can't do this.” Deep down, you know you’re not worthless, so why does this inner monologue play on a loop? It may have to do with the subtle messages coming from the world around you. Daily experiences encourage you to just go with the flow and not make waves. These messages are so prevalent that you’ve begun to internalize them. Now, it feels like the stress is just part of your new normal. It’s taking a toll on your well-being. You can’t sleep, you feel disconnected and overwhelmed. Something needs to change.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
