Hey there! It sure has been a rough day, week, month, year - you name it. When was the last time you just breathed? Stopped and breathed? Feeling like you are overwhelmed? Having a hard time putting your thoughts and feelings into words? What's stopping you from living your best life? In my practice I focus on creating a space for clients to just BE... just be here, just be present, just be yourself. Our time together will focus on learning ways to improve mood, reduce stress, make realistic goals, and create healthy boundaries/relationships. I am a trauma-informed therapist who believes many of our problems come from how we respond to or avoid difficult thoughts, memories, feelings, and experiences. Anxiety, depression, grief, and uncertainty can all be a part of life. What is important is learning how to navigate them so they don't take control. Are you suffering from anxiety, worry, depression, or grief? Have you suffered trauma? Are you feeling overwhelmed, losing hope, or just wanting things to be different? You're not alone, and I believe you can make it through.

I have a background working with clients with substance use disorders and those carrying trauma from their past. Sometimes the brain can become stuck in survival mode because it is doing what it thinks is best for you. I believe that by having a safe place to compassionately explore the things we keep inside, it can open up the doorway to healing and allow the brain to shift from a state of survival to one of thriving. I have a strong interest in working with neurodiverse clients (those on the spectrum and/or with ADHD ) and plan to continue working more with this population going forward.

Most people have a natural drive to be independent and self-sustaining. The truth is life is not always easy and it can be difficult to be vulnerable with others. When people use their courage and bravery to reach out, I have nothing but admiration for them. In the dark times of life, we need a place where we can feel understood, genuinely cared about, and supported. I believe that every person is unique, and everyone has different needs. Some times life's difficulties take more time then we would like but I am there to go through it all with you.

ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
