In my practice I provide a comforting relaxing non-judgmental atmosphere in which to process thoughts and feelings at your own pace. I also believe you are the "boss" because I don't live in your head or walk in your shoes. I will make suggestions as to how to cope, challenge, manage thoughts, and feelings while improving relationships through the process. I will never tell you what to do because it is up for you to decide as to what works best. My time with you will be focused on how I can help you become the best version of yourself.

I work from a person-centered approach to promote an empowering atmosphere for my clients. It is important to me to help clients gain awareness of their own unique set of strengths that give them the ability to create positive change in their lives and relationships. I am passionate about facilitating growth within clients' marriages, love relationships, parent-child relationships, and any other relationships they wish to strengthen. Rather than focusing strictly on the symptomatic nature of clients' concerns, I take a holistic approach and foster an overall healing of the self.

We believe every person has an innate capacity for resilience and growth. Our work focuses on helping clients access that inner strength as they navigate life’s challenges. We take a holistic approach that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit. We also recognize the stigma surrounding mental health care and strive to counter it with compassion, respect, and understanding. The Phoenix symbolizing renewal and strength reflects the transformation we witness in those we serve. We believe with support and guidance, individuals can rise, rebuild, and reclaim their sense of self.

My philosophy of healing is like working your way through a set of nesting dolls from the outer doll representing why you want to heal: trauma, attachment/relationship injury, depression, grief, and anxiety. The next doll holds the symptoms, thoughts, and feelings of the first doll. The next doll may may hold your negative beliefs you have perceived about yourself, others, and the world. The next doll may hold consequences and life impairments. The final doll represents your core and authentic self. The person you would be without all of the other dolls in relationship to the unity of mind, soul, heart, body and spirit.

I am currently accepting new clients. Building self-worth and establishing identity are two areas of focus I find are often the beginning of healing. If you feel lost or 'broken,' let's work together to find the 'You' you were created to be. I work with teens and adults who are ready for support and healing, using practical tools that make everyday life feel more manageable. Together, we can make sense of what hurts, break unhealthy patterns, and help you feel more grounded, hopeful, and confident moving forward.

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
