My holistic approach to healing includes the approaches of EMDR, IFS, and
EFT
.
My philosophy of healing is like working your way through a set of nesting dolls from the outer doll representing why you want to heal: trauma, attachment/relationship injury, depression, grief, and anxiety. The next doll holds the symptoms, thoughts, and feelings of the first doll. The next doll may may hold your negative beliefs you have perceived about yourself, others, and the world. The next doll may hold consequences and life impairments. The final doll represents your core and authentic self. The person you would be without all of the other dolls in relationship to the unity of mind, soul, heart, body and spirit.

I provide a safe and compassionate space where clients can be themselves and truly share their story with me. We all have unhelpful thoughts/coping strategies/emotional patterns that we pick up along the way that may have helped us adapt in the past but have kept us from growing. I utilize my client’s strengths to help them find their voice and empower them to make the changes to achieve the life they want. I have years of experience in helping people with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues as well as everyday life stressors and challenges.

Most people have a natural drive to be independent and self-sustaining. The truth is life is not always easy and it can be difficult to be vulnerable with others. When people use their courage and bravery to reach out, I have nothing but admiration for them. In the dark times of life, we need a place where we can feel understood, genuinely cared about, and supported. I believe that every person is unique, and everyone has different needs. Some times life's difficulties take more time then we would like but I am there to go through it all with you.

Seeking help and counseling takes courage. Therapy can provide a safe place to identify struggles and find new ways to navigate challenging situations. I work with individuals who experience Veteran and/or military-related concerns; boundary setting, imposter syndrome, family of origin issues, family-related trauma, or attachment ruptures, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am also prior service military and have some insight regarding this culture.

My goals are to support you in developing life-enhancing emotions such as self-compassion, humor, and gratitude while also learning how to relate to all emotions as fleeting; as messengers of our experiences. This ultimately helps you relate differently to stress, fear, and anxiety, empathize with others, communicate more effectively, and build healthier relationships. When we can learn to honor our internal experiences, relate to our emotions in a non-judgmental way, and treat ourselves with compassion, we can begin to create change and build meaningful lives for ourselves.

You might be feeling any combination of the following: stuck, overwhelmed, dissatisfied, unbalanced, just going through the motions, unfulfilled, frustrated, etc. Something is standing between you and leading a life that you’re proud of. You are unsure where to begin but know you're ready for change. Here's where I come in: I help convince young professionals (young adults/millennials, primarily) that they are ALREADY worthy. And then they start to actually believe it themselves. You are not alone and together, we can unpack, unlearn, and begin to embody exactly what you desire. Unsure of what you want exactly? I can help there too.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
