I specialize in child &
adolescent
counseling and working with trauma and anxiety.
Emotional and behavioral challenges in childhood and adolescence affects the child and rest of the family unit as well. Caregivers often find themselves heartbroken while they watch their child struggle through issues they wish they could take away, and if the child is acting out behaviorally, it is common for caregivers to even feel hurt and confused. I offer therapy services for children ages 3 and up, as well as adults and families for the diagnosis and treatment of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns, as well as offer support services and psychoeducation to their caregivers and other family members.

Now more than ever I see individuals struggling to get through their daily lives, having a hard time being themselves and finding it difficult to connect with others. This may happen over time when living a life that is in conflict with your inner truth(s). You may be struggling to express who you are or what you want. These kinds of struggles, on top of other factors such as anxiety, burn out, compassion fatigue, the stressors of daily living and showing up for loved ones are all just some reasons to consider contacting a therapist.

As a therapist, I believe my role is to help guide and support clients in their healing journey. I am trained in EMDR and it is my main modality. With this, I work to help clients heal from stressful experiences that make them feel stuck. I work with my clients to curate a felt sense of safety in safe environments. We then work together to install more adaptive ways to handle stress. I believe we are always working towards healing but at times, need some help along the way. I provide this so clients can feel more empowered, self compassionate, and grounded.

I have always felt honored to be given the opportunity to assist others in addressing what may be their most difficult time in life. My primary focus is meeting clients where they are in dealing with the reasons for seeking therapy. Building comfort and rapport is of the upmost importance and will be a theme of each session. As a clinician, I utilize a strengths based perspective to engage the barriers that keep us from feeling our best. Often times our greatest barrier may be our own irrational beliefs, problematic routines, unrealistic expectations and lack of positive coping strategies. Together we can create incredible change.

The brain and body are truly magnificent. Sometimes people feel as if their own is broken, different, or damaged. There may be a specific incident that brings up this thought. Or maybe they don't know why they feel that way, they just do. I have taken my time in the field to find ways to treat all types of symptoms with facets from multiple modalities with the approach that the more options a person has, the more likely they are to find something that works. It is my goal to assist others in finding that something to help their system do what it was designed to: heal and connect. Call or text 681-214-0025 to schedule!

“The paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect.” —Peter Levine, PhD, In An Unspoken Voice Trauma, traumatic stress, anxiety and or depression are a group of symptoms that are the result of a loop the nervous system is caught in when it has been unable to complete natural, healthy responses to an overwhelming event. These instinctual responses are often referred to as fight, flight, freeze and fawn. The long-term effects can show up in a huge variety of physical and or psychological symptoms and even disease states.

Most people have a natural drive to be independent and self-sustaining. The truth is life is not always easy and it can be difficult to be vulnerable with others. When people use their courage and bravery to reach out, I have nothing but admiration for them. In the dark times of life, we need a place where we can feel understood, genuinely cared about, and supported. I believe that every person is unique, and everyone has different needs. Some times life's difficulties take more time then we would like but I am there to go through it all with you.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
