I work with many populations from addictions/ relapse prevention to life transitions and chronic illness to grief to PTSD/ stress/ anxiety/ mood disorders.
It can be difficult to reach out for help and even more difficult to admit that you could use some guidance. When you are struggling, having someone in your corner to help you overcome the hurdles in your journey can be helpful. I take a holistic approach, focusing on the symptoms you identify and how they affect you in all areas of your life. We will work as a team to figure out the root cause and find the healthiest ways to cope. The treatment plan will be individualized to YOU, as no two people are exactly the same. Much of our work together will focus on how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact with one another.

My professional concentration has been in the areas of: domestic violence, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, PTSD, OCD, "transitional issues" and problem gambling.
My approach in counseling is somewhat holistic and eclectic. I believe a supportive counseling environment works to help a client achieve awareness, thus leading to healing and personal growth. My role is to help clients explore their emotional needs and provide feedback. Hopefully, the value will be realized in both behavioral and emotional changes. Under all circumstances, my mission is to treat the client with the utmost regard and honor the human condition as it is. Counseling hours are available most days at your convenience. Often clients are able to schedule an appointment with 24 hours of calling my office.

Are you a woman reclaiming life after breast cancer, or a man grappling with caregiving, diagnosis, or hidden trauma no one talks about?
With two decades of expertise, I’ve worked with individuals and families across trauma, chronic illness, caregiving, and special populations. But my story doesn’t stop at credentials —I am also a breast cancer thriver. I know the shock, the fears of “What now?” and the silence that follows when treatment ends, but the emotional storm continues.

Hello! I’m Carolyn, a licensed independent clinical social worker practicing in West Virginia since 2019. I strive to create a comfortable, supportive, and empowering environment for clients to be able to open up and feel a connection. I have worked with individuals of all ages, and currently I am providing individual therapy services to clients who are ages 12 and up.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
