Caring for your loved one and watching them deteriorate before your eyes is not easy. Dementia, cognitive decline and older-adult life transitions require a special skillset that needs unparalleled patience and support. I know how difficult it is finding that right person to care for your loved one. Look no more.

I strongly believe that everyone is unique and everyone’s story is unique; therefore, different approaches are essential in working with a wide variety of people. I am a true believer in the concept of “words shape beliefs” and, in that vein, saying “I do not know” or “please help” are powerful words since vulnerability often leads to growth and healing. One of my favorite quotes is by Viktor Frankl who said "When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves."

Whether you're going through new challenges and life changes, or dealing with old stuff and complex trauma, you don't have to do it alone. I have 10 years of experience using evidence-based treatments to help clients achieve more fulfilling and meaningful lives. We all go through things, all of us. Shame and embarrassment about how we feel, think, and act can get in the way. You may benefit from opening up to someone, gaining perspective, and figuring out new ways to deal with your past, manage your present moments, and approach your future. You deserve to give yourself a chance for things to be different.

Are you feeling stuck, alone, lost? I can help. Everyone struggles with navigating a world that's often unkind, confusing, and overwhelming. I get it, it's hard to be a human. Having lived all over the world & moved 19 times, I know life can be tricky to navigate. Sometimes you need someone from the outside to help you make sense of life's messy stuff. I can. I've worked in prisons, with veterans, mil-families, trauma victims, govt officials, celebrities, moms, dads, college students, people like you and me, just trying to do life. I'm confident that together, we can shift, adjust, adapt and thrive. Breathe, then get unstuck.

Everyone deserves a chance to sit in a space of love, allowing for the best version of ones self regardless of life experience. In our own way, we all go through times where we need to be understood, authentically cared about, and supported in a non judgmental way. We do not need to sit in darkness alone. It is valuable to empower ourselves with the support and healing required to live a meaningful, happy existence. Positive lifestyle change can be attained whether its through hiking, yoga, or counseling.

Now in Huntington too! Therapy is a place to pause, reflect on what you are seeking in life and explore the barriers preventing you from taking that next step in your journey. Life changes or chronic situations can throw us off course, leaving us to feel out of sync, confused, & disconnected from life. Whether you are looking to reconnect, find purpose, learn new coping skills, process trauma or loss, manage anxiety, deal with shame or make a life changing decision, therapy can be a safe place to discover the power you have within yourself to design your own solutions & find new ways to navigate challenging situations. I have a background working with clients with substance use disorders and those carrying trauma from their past. Sometimes the brain can become stuck in survival mode because it is doing what it thinks is best for you. I believe that by having a safe place to compassionately explore the things we keep inside, it can open up the doorway to healing and allow the brain to shift from a state of survival to one of thriving. I have a strong interest in working with neurodiverse clients (those on the spectrum and/or with ADHD) and plan to continue working more with this population going forward.

You knew that marriage was going to be hard, but this is ridiculous! It’s not supposed to be THIS hard. There’s just too much bickering, irritability, and frustration. And when you fight—all bets are off and anything goes. It takes days of silence before you recover. You wanted a relationship that eased your burdens, not make life more complicated. You worry that you will stop liking each other. And you will lose the love. But deep down, you really want this to work. You want a closer, deeper relationship. There's hope: you don't have to live this way. You CAN have a great relationship.

I work to create a whole-brain and body approach to healing for each individual client through the use of EMDR. I promote seeking balance in life and advocate to help people feel emotionally and mentally empowered. I also take a trauma-informed approach in helping others better understand themselves, their behavior and how this has impacted their life. It is important to me to meet people where they are in seeking change and healing, because I believe this allows people to experience the power of freedom and choice in improving the overall quality of their life.

Emotional and behavioral challenges in childhood and adolescence affects the child and rest of the family unit as well. Caregivers often find themselves heartbroken while they watch their child struggle through issues they wish they could take away, and if the child is acting out behaviorally, it is common for caregivers to even feel hurt and confused. I offer therapy services for children ages 3 and up, as well as adults and families for the diagnosis and treatment of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns, as well as offer support services and psychoeducation to their caregivers and other family members.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
