I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and I work with clients with eating disorders, chronic illness, anxiety, trauma, women's issues and life transitions. Many times we may not be aware of how certain situations have impacted us. We may even feel that we have dealt with things cognitively; however, our actions and emotions may not align. I work from a trauma-focused lens which means that I believe that we have all had our fair share of difficulties that are impacting our present-day thoughts, emotions and behaviors. I work with clients to address past, present and future struggles to have a more adaptive perspective.

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected? Is it difficult for you to manage your emotions and make sense of how you feel? Are you finding it hard to be kind to yourself? I help individuals manage their anxiety and depression as a result of their life experiences and trauma by finding ways to cope with distressing emotions and finding safety in their bodies and environment. Together, we can work towards understanding how your life experiences have impacted your behaviors and identify what survival skills no longer serve you.

I am a creative therapist whose approach is intuitive and eclectic. My focus is on emotional healing, aiding clients to move through emotional blockages currently hindering their self-growth. Often, anxiety, depression, life changes and traumas are the catalyst that brings a client into therapy. I help clients to move beyond symptom management to address the deeper issues causing them emotional distress, creative blockages and difficulty in their current lives. I am skilled at helping people heal from childhood wounds and recent traumas . I also help people address codependency and self-empowerment issues.

Stop the unhealthy relationship cycle, find new ways of getting your emotional needs met. I help individuals, who have struggled in their relationships, gain a better understanding of how the cycle of unhealthy relationships began. We explore how to create healthier, more fulfilling, emotional connections in a collaborative, nurturing, nonjudgmental environment. My clients, are often successful in life, but they also talk about how they are never happy or fulfilled in their current relationships. They talk about the difficult childhood that they had and often recognize the connection between the two.

You've tried the diets. You've read the self-help books. You've scoured TikTok and Instagram for answers. But, you just haven't been able to find your way out of dieting cycles, binge eating and harsh self-talk that leaves you feeling defeated and like you'll never feel normal around food or your body. I want you to know that healing is possible. That you can relearn how to trust your body and that you can heal from years of shame, blame, trauma and disconnection from yourself.

I practice EMDR as a complete therapy. What does this mean for you? Through the process of therapy your brain and nervous system can get out of the feedback loop it’s been stuck in from relational patterns, traumas, and roadblocks and you can form the responses that you desire! As a therapist, I’m goal directed, intentional, creative, and warm. Outside of the therapy room—I’m wife, and mom to three tiny humans. I enjoy time with family and friends, working out, DIY projects, and time in my church community. I’ve been a therapist for over 7 years and love walking with clients through the journey of therapy.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
