I have an interest/special expertise in adult ADHD, women's issues, anxiety/depression, addictions, and couples.
I want to start out by saying that I'm looking forward to meeting you and working on the issues and goals that brought you into my office. I am extremely passionate about what I do and love my job! It is my belief that everyone has significant strengths and abilities to heal and get to the place in life where they want to be, but sometimes you just need a little bit of help. I use a strengths-based approach and also help clients look into where their issues are coming from instead of just trying to put a Band-Aid on the problem.

You want to appear successful & like you have it “all together” but deep down are struggling to feel confident in who you are or cope with challenging experiences that have occurred in your life. Are you a woman whose life looks “good” from the outside, and yet it still feels like something is missing? You’ve accomplished a lot in life, but don’t feel the sense of fulfillment you expected. A big life change—maybe a breakup, new job, new marriage, change in family dynamic, or move—has highlighted the fact that you’re still not as happy or content as you want to be. Something is telling you that you need to make a shift.

Accepting NEW Clients! Do you feel emotionally unsafe, disconnected, or lonely in your marriage or feel as a couple you often communicate angrily or disrespectfully? I have many years’ experience working with couples who feel hopeless, distressed, and ready to call it quits. Couples' work often consists of learning to be vulnerable with each other again, expressing feelings and certain needs to feel connected, and co-regulating negative emotions to increase the closeness you once experienced. Decreasing the negative cycles of conflict will help strengthen the bond in your relationship and finally bring the healing you seek.

I appreciate someone with an open heart and a willingness to explore their inner self. I value individuals who are ready to engage and connect in meaningful conversations. I know it can be hard to take the first step for help, and look for someone who is committed to their own growth and willing to collaborate in their goals. Trust, honesty, and a desire to change create a supportive connecting environment where healing and transformation can take place.

Many of us want to be more grounded, live life more fully and also experience deeper connection in our relationships. We can find ourselves disoriented, uncertain, and even overwhelmed as we experience transitions, stress, and events that affect us & our closest relationships. Sometimes it can be hard to even articulate exactly what's wrong. I work well with couples and individuals who find themselves in these places. I believe therapy can provide people a safe, authentic space where you are valued & where you given space and support to talk through what is most important to you.

My clients are typically adoptees and/or their adoptive or birth families. I also see women who are struggling with burnout. Adoption is a life-long process that can create many challenges for adoptees. I “get it” on a level most therapists can’t because as an adoptee myself, I’ve also experienced those losses and the questions that come with them. I am in reunion and have been since I was 18. This has been a largely positive experience but has had emotional ups and downs through the years.

Do others tell you you're too sensitive? Do you expect yourself to be perfect? Do you use substances or engage in compulsive behaviors to make yourself feel better? So many of us were raised in homes where we were not given the nurturance, guidance, or protection we needed as children. Even if there was no physical or sexual abuse, we may have been raised in ways that did not create the solid, secure foundations we needed to become confident, joyful adults. Please hear me: There is nothing wrong with you. You are resilient and developed amazing, creative ways to survive.

It's uncomfortable to reach out for help, to reveal our pain and personal matters to anyone, let alone a stranger. This is why my priority is creating a safe, judgment free space to build a genuine connection with my clients. In addition to developing strategies to relieve immediate distress, I apply my 15 years in mental health, from home-based to hospital crisis work, to help you identify the reasons behind your struggles and resolve the underlying causes. This provides the framework for positive growth and a deeper understanding of oneself, for lasting results.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
