I am passionate about working with all minorities in society, including LGBTQ+ folx. I have experience working through taboo topics, trauma, racial identity and women's issues, and am vocal about my stance on social justice when necessary. I use an integrative approach to therapy to tailor sessions to the specific needs of each of my clients. I am humanistic, person-centered in my approach and facilitate interpersonal relational work. I am always strength based and really enjoy working with Black folx & people of color, but I am willing to work with anyone who is ready to work through current life stressors in non judgmental space.

Originally from Chile, I am a bilingual culturally-conscious and trauma-informed therapist helping individuals heal from intergenerational trauma, migratory and cultural issues, family dysfunction, sex and relational issues, and mood disorders. Whether this is your first time or not, if you’re here you’re taking an active step to dedicate time and invest in you and your wellbeing. That is AWESOME. I value the co-creation of a strong relationship that allows reconnection with your emotional self, all the intersections of your existence, and the life experiences that informed your view of self and the world.

I work primarily with women who are struggling with identity crises and self-acceptance, depression and anxiety, self-trust and overwhelm. First, we have a history-taking and goal-setting session. We then use gentle self-care to establish a healthy mental wellness routine. Next, I guide you toward your goals. Our work together is complete, usually after 6-12 months, when you have met those goals and have a strong, accepting sense of who you are.

I work with clients to develop self-awareness, and reflect on how they developed their beliefs and behaviors that contribute to current difficulties in their lives. I also help clients develop realistic behavioral goals for lifestyle changes, explore family of origin dynamics, and work toward implementing healthy changes in your relationships. Additionally, I work with parents of teens struggling with their mental health using Emotion Focused Family Therapy. This skills-based approach helps parents emotionally connect with their teens in order to help promote their child's well-being.

Accepting clients for telehealth. Are you considered the one who has it all together making it difficult to get the support you need? Sometimes life's stressors overwhelm our ability to cope. However, I believe the greatest tools we have are within ourselves! We sometimes just don't know how to access them. My passion for therapy comes from empowering individuals to authentically lead the lives they choose to live, with consideration for cultural values and overall wellness.

If compassion, care and safety has not always been guaranteed in your life, you may struggle to even feel safe with yourself and in your own body and mind. Whether you experience overwhelming negative thoughts, anxiety or unmanageable emotions, I will provide a safe space for you to be your authentic self and explore the ways you can live the life you truly want. In a society where many have their needs and emotions dismissed, I prioritize creating a comfortable space that is accepting, welcomes the expression of vulnerability in many forms, and is thoughtful of varying identities.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
