I help women with their anxiety, self esteem, and women's issues related to people-pleasing overcome the negative thinking and negative feelings associated with putting others before themselves.
Anxiety really sucks. People-pleasing because saying 'no' scares you. Holding it together on the outside but falling apart within. Willing to sacrifice your needs for the needs of others. You're anxious all the time but you don't know how to handle it. Your thoughts are racing, heart pounding, palms sweating…and you don’t know how to stop. Overthinking is your go-to but it never helps. And you practice what you're going to say because you're afraid to upset others. I help anxious women struggling with people-pleasing and setting healthy boundaries with less guilt, shame, and fear.

I greatly enjoy working with adults of all ages presenting with anxiety, life transition, relationship and attachment issues, trauma, grief and women’s issues. I also enjoy seeing older teens. With nearly a decade of experience working with substance abuse and eating disorder clients, I welcome clients struggling with these issues. Most recently I’ve been doing training in the field of psycho-oncology, and gladly will see clients who are looking for support with their own cancer diagnosis or looking to support loved ones with a cancer diagnosis.

This is not how you thought life would be. You feel like you’re failing, and you're plagued by guilt. You’re terrified all the time. Everything is so overwhelming. Why is everything so hard? This is supposed to be the happiest time in your life, so why can’t you enjoy it? You feel like you’re going crazy, but you’re too scared to tell anyone. You feel like a burden. If any of these thoughts sound familiar, you are not alone in what you’re experiencing, and it's not uncommon. You are not losing your mind, and it can get better. I can help you feel like yourself again and get your life back.

I believe change is possible for all individuals willing to seek out support and lean into discomfort. You can do hard things and together we'll come up with a plan to live a more fulfilling life. Sometimes it is easier to stay stuck than it is to put in the work to improve our lives and circumstances. I'm here to assist you in getting unstuck whether it be from dysfunctional relationships, depression, communication issues, or life transitions by exploring our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
