Are you feeling burned out from juggling it all? Does your "to do" list ever end or are you worrying about it late at night when you're trying to fall asleep? Are you getting impatient with loved ones followed by deep regret for those unpleasant exchanges you wish had never even happened in the first place? I understand how difficult it can be managing your demanding career or business ventures, your beloved family, and some semblance of a personal life. It all seems so fragile and it feels like you have nothing left to give. That’s not who you are though and you've decided it's time to make a change.

Life is a journey. Sometimes you need someone to walk beside you, to support in navigating its path. You may have friends and family but need an individual outside your immediate support system. Or you may find yourself at a point in life feeling alone, with no one on the path beside you. If either resonates with you, I am here to support you in reflecting, moving forward, working on challenges in your life, and progressing on your path. I provide both in-office sessions and tele-health. Online therapy for both Florida and Georgia. In-office visits are available in Yulee/Fernandina Beach Florida.

When times are hard, we need a deep kind of comfort. Something elemental. A solid support. A rock to hold on to. The kind we already have inside us. But which we sometimes need a bit of help to see. - (quote by Matt Haig, author of ‘The comfort book’). Let’s work together in a way that’s best for you. Therapy can help you be intentional about the next season of your life and take steps toward healing, growth, and wellness. In our sessions, you will gain clarity on how best to navigate all of life's demands.

I approach counseling with a trauma-informed perspective and the fundamental belief that we are all whole individuals - each of us unique; equally deserving of love, understanding, and compassion; and capable of making positive changes to achieve well-being, contentment, and meaningful connection. While there are many factors that may interrupt your ability to live life fully, my goal is to help you identify, understand, and resolve your own unique life stressors.

I think as human beings we want to feel seen, heard, appreciated, respected, loved, and valued. I believe most of us want to make a difference in the lives of those around us, our loved ones, friends and community. If you find yourself feeling deeply unhappy, confused and dissatisfied in any of your relationships, I'd like to learn more about you and what you are seeking in your life and in your relationships.

In my practice, I work with a broad range of clients who are simply struggling with life's demands - coping with change and transitions, discovering identities and passions, grieving losses big and small, and understanding the complexities of relationships. I enjoy working from a systems perspective; that is, understanding how relationships impact an individual and bringing those relationships into the therapy process if necessary.

Making the choice to come to therapy is an important decision. Apart from the clinical training and skill of your counselor, the most important part of your experience is the therapeutic relationship. Most people who come to counseling need to talk about things that can be hard to talk about with someone else. I understand that, and this is why I put so much importance on building a trusting relationship. In order for you to say everything exactly how you mean it and to express yourself fully, you need to feel genuinely safe and free from judgment.

You're an ambitious woman struggling with anxiety, frustration, anger, and/or sadness. Romantic relationships can reopen old wounds where we discover we still need healing. In addition, your relationships with your father, mother, and siblings can also leave you feeling unsettled, anxious, and angry (aka - triggered). You desire healing from your childhood and beyond. You've tried talk therapy in the past with little success. Maybe you've tried multiple therapists. Together, we will get to the root of your issues and help you find the healing you desire. I offer 60/90/120 minute sessions. I am certified in EMDR.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
