I have been a therapist for many years. Therapy, I feel, begins with a relationship, and before someone leaves my office for the first time, I would like them to feel that they are understood and cared for. Very often, people feel overwhelmed in their marriage, , their other relationships, or their life at work. I try to tune in to their current discomfort quickly and give them the idea that we can work together to improve their life.
I use several approaches, mainly insight oriented therapy, C.B.T., and reality based counselling. I see individuals with recent crises, lifetime problems, anxiety, stress, depression, and substance abuse issues. I have also done extensive counseling with troubled couples.
Thus the emphasis is both on insight and behavior change. The goal is to help people understand how life events have contributed to troubled areas of living and to lead happier lives.
