Will Dempsey
Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LICSW
He/Him/His
Have you ever wanted a drag queen as a therapist? Well you've come to the right place. In my spare time I'm a drag queen from New York, so I'm not afraid to call you out. Don't worry I won't read you, though a client has said I snatched their wig once. I want sessions to be fun, while also helpful. Once we have a relationship built, I will happily call out patterns that I see haven't been working. Our community faces barriers that our cis het counterparts don't - systemic barriers, dyshporia, feeling outcast (even in our own community). We will work to have the emotional impact these have on us sashay away.
We will work together on the path to self love - EVERYBODY SAY LOVE! I use a solutions based approach to identify tangible ways to fix what's happening, as well as CBT and EMDR apporaches. However, a lot of these theories were not built for BIPOC or queer folx, so I will bend and twist them into something that works - like Yvie Oddly.
I want to ensure I create a space for folx to feel they can be their authentic selves. I always give folx the stink eye when they apologize for cursing. If our goal is for you to love yourself, why not start together in session? Because if you can't, how are you going to love anyone else? Can I get an amen? Now let the music play!
