It can be easy to lose our way, lose hope, and I feel passionate about helping others find peace, acceptance, and ultimately one's own strengths to navigate stressful situations.
I want to help each person find strategies and solutions to barriers that cause stress and pain. It is not my place to tell anyone what to do or not do, but rather be a nonjudgmental guide and caring support to help you navigate and promote positive change within oneself, in relationships or in other areas that may feel overwhelming.

Clients deserve to have a safe space to discover options for their healing journey. Clients, regardless of needs and goals all have one thing in common; grief. The idea of losing someone, something, or a unexpected change in life brings upon the grieving process. It is not expected that everyone suffers alone and in silence; this is only the goal of stigma. Bring all of the hurt, guilt, shame, desperation, and pain to the safe space of therapy and use it as a stepping stone on your own carved path to overall health and wellness in mind, body, and spirit.

I most often use ACT ( Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) in my practice.
Life has gotten so hard, and you are at a loss for what to do. Trying to fall asleep at night has become a battle. Wandering through your days, both exhausted and restless, you spend most of your time worrying. Sadness, emptiness, and overwhelm creates that never-ending sense of hopelessness. You don’t want to do anything or be anywhere. Lately, you’ve become so irritable and don’t really know why. As you suffer, so do your closest relationships. You catch occasional glimpses of feeling better, but you can’t hold on to that feeling very long. The pieces of your life just don’t seem to fit together no matter how hard you try.

Many of the individuals & couples I work with struggle to break free of self-defeating patterns - they feel stuck. I have specific expertise in working with people who have been impacted by distressing or traumatic life experiences. Trauma can contribute to a sense of disconnection from ourselves, others, and the world. This is an adaptive reaction to abnormal events. In time, you may realize that living life in ‘survival’ mode is no longer serving you. You may feel numb or empty, or feel ‘too emotional' or reactionary. Connecting with others may feel overwhelming. You are deserving of growth, connection, and healing.

I use a multi-modality approach, including CBT, DBT, Exposure, ACT, and Unified Protocol.
Do you feel like you're fighting a war on multiple fronts? Maybe you're struggling to keep your head above water with depression, only to find yourself reaching for a drink or doom-scrolling to numb the pain. Or perhaps your anxiety is so loud that it’s starting to wear down your relationships and your physical health. When you’re dealing with more than one 'thing,' it can feel like you’re just playing Whac-A-Mole with your symptoms.

To the outside world, you're seen as a pretty together person who's hard-working, accomplished and self-sufficient. When life get's tough, you buck up, soldier on, & "never let 'em see you bleed." You bottle up your pain and keep a tight lid on it. But, behind this exterior, you're actually hanging on by your fingertips. The stress on your shoulders is unbearably heavy & you're overwhelmed, stressed-out, and you feel like you're drowning under the pressure of it all. You're pain is silent, but your suffering is real and it's taking a toll on your health, productivity and your relationships with others.

I help clients build motivation and gain understanding of their use patterns and how their use affects their quality of life and others in their lives. I take a firm and transdiagnostic approach, focusing on a unified protocol and motivational interviewing. While abstinence is recommended, I believe in harm reduction with an ultimate goal of long-term recovery. I strive to help clients recognize their needs and find strategies to address them in a healthier, less destructive way.

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
