As a practicing clinical psychologist since 1998, I have developed expertise in several areas of therapy. In general practice, working with clientele ages 10 and up, I work with many individuals with depression, anxiety, and anger management issues. I also enjoy working with couples, utilizing the Gottman method frequently in improving relationships. Finally, working with parents on behavioral management of children rounds out my practice. I often consult with general practitioners to help with chronic pain and medical issues, along with local psychiatric professionals on clients requiring psychotropic medications.

I offer therapy sessions virtually for anyone in the state of Wisconsin, and in-person nature-based sessions in the Viroqua area, Mon-Thurs.
The most important relationship you have is with yourself. My goal is to support you in finding peace by re-connecting you with who you really are at the core: before the trauma happened, before life changed unexpectedly, before the conditioning that made you feel less-than, underneath the lingering depression and anxiety. Together we'll explore what's getting in the way of your best life, and work towards self-awareness and acceptance.

Psychotherapy can improve many aspects of one’s life. It can improve our relationship with ourselves, our family, and others. Psychotherapy can also improve our quality of life by addressing past and current situations and by learning new skills for the future. I welcome all adults, individuals, couples, and families, as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community to my practice. I have extensive experience working with U.S. Veterans and Active Duty Servicemembers.

Most couples come into therapy seeking help with communication. We do in-session exercises that strengthen curiosity and self-awareness, in order to slow down reactivity. This allows partners to interact with presence and intention, instead of through the lens of past pain. With individuals, our work can include changing self-talk, managing chronic stress or pain, and trauma recovery.

I have worked with clients who wanted to enhance their relationship, others who wanted to improve their mental health and still others who wanted to deal more effectively with the day-to-day challenges, pressures, and stressors. I have counseled with individuals, couples, and families as well as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Professional Counselor and Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor. I firmly believe there is hope with effective counseling, and that clients have a great capacity to change and make healthy choices. They are resilient. Every day can be a fresh start, a new beginning.

Greetings, I offer telehealth and in-person sessions (Winona, MN) and am available most weekdays and some evenings.
Are you crispy from helping others, secretly wish someone would ask what you need but know you’d just say "I'm fine"? It can be hard to know what we need and find ways to feel supported. That’s where therapy can help. People often come into my office saying, “I hate hate asking for help.” I work with folks who support others, formally (counselor, first responder, nurse) or informally (family, friend, partner), and find they need tools to care for themselves, navigate grief and past traumas, connect with their loved ones, or realign with their core values. You deserve a teammate on your adventure towards relief and joy.

I offer in person sessions in Holmen, and virtual sessions statewide in Wisconsin!
Accepting new clients! Do you feel disconnected from yourself or others? Struggle to put your needs first or express what you’re feeling? Wonder if life could feel easier or more fulfilling? Life’s challenges, anxiety, and relationships can feel overwhelming, even when it looks like you’re holding it all together. This can show up as overthinking, people-pleasing, shutting down, or feeling unsure of who you are or what you need. For some, these struggles begin in adolescence, through changing friendships, identity, and overwhelming emotions. You might be a parent noticing these shifts in your child and wondering how to support them.

My practice focuses on individuals 30 and older, who are experiencing anxiety & depression, grief & loss, the effects of trauma, spiritual and existential dilemmas, major life transitions including mid-life and end of life, or simply know they have inner work and exploration to do. I work primarily within a Jungian depth psychology tradition which reveals meaning, mystery and connection in the narratives of our lives, dreams and imagination. Dream work is a major component of this tradition. I also enjoy incorporating parts work according to the IFS model.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
