I've worked with adults of all ages who struggle with both mental health & substance use.
I believe folks have the innate ability to find healing and change within themselves through supportive guidance in a safe environment. My aim is to provide space for discussion, exploration, learning, and growth—however that looks. I follow the client's lead in identifying and approaching their concerns, including tailoring treatment methods to best fit their goals and learning styles. I approach every therapeutic relationship being trauma informed, culturally sensitive, and person-centered. I am passionate about increasing self-awareness, learning how to navigate challenges, and practicing healthy connection and communication.

I wholeheartedly believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of meaningful work in therapy. That’s why I strive to create a space that feels safe, supportive, and free of judgment—especially knowing that many people haven’t had the chance to experience that kind of space before. You can expect me to show up as my authentic self and meet you where you are at. Life can be hard, and sometimes it’s even harder to remember that you don’t have to face it alone. I work collaboratively with clients to identify their unique goals and support them throughout their journey toward achieving them.

I have additional training in treating eating disorders and substance use disorders.
Each client is unique, an important part of how I provide therapy is working to get to know a person. While I have a framework for therapy influenced by interpersonal and CBT theories I find I'm most successful when I can be present, grounded, and curious. I believe people deserve empathy, autonomy, and safety and I work to prioritize this in session.

I have a passion for working with adults of all ages struggling with life transitions, grief, loss, aging, substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, and depression. I believe we experience grief and pain in all situations in life. Whether you are struggling with a recent death of loved one, experiencing a life change, or have experienced trauma, we learn to adapt and cope with our pain. Often, the way we learned to cope with our pain no longer works for us, and we may feel struck, not knowing how to help ourselves change. I strive to offer clients a person-centered approach toward healing and their desired change.

Whether you’re thinking about making changes to your substance use, you already have, or you'd like to encourage your person to make changes, I would love to speak with you.
One of the most painful byproducts of addiction and mental health struggles, is relational turmoil. Too often, both the person using substances (or in early recovery) and their family members feel misunderstood, judged, hurt, and confused about the relationship and how to move forward. You might have questions like: How can I trust, when they’ve lied to me so many times? How can I rebuild trust if they won’t give me a chance? Why should I work at this if they won’t? What is enabling and what is support? Do we need to hold an intervention? How do I set boundaries? Why can’t they just ...?!

I am passionate about working with individuals who find themselves asking, “Is it just me?”—especially when their experiences feel isolating or separate from those around them. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space for clients navigating grief and loss, trauma, perinatal and postpartum challenges, the unique experiences of service members, and concerns related to substance use. I believe healing happens through connection and understanding, and she works collaboratively with clients to help them feel seen, supported, and less alone.

I have been licensed as a mental health therapist in Wisconsin since 2016, and prior to that, I worked in all levels of care at a substance use treatment center.
Hi, I'm Sarah. I believe people are inherently resilient and do what they can to survive life's challenges. I love to work with adults and adolescents dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, and neurodivergence as they access their natural ability to heal and thrive. My goal is to help people feel connected to themselves and to feel empowered in their choices. Your experiences matter, and as you are ready, I want to hear about what brought you to where you are today.

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
