Marriage
and Couples therapy: I help couples find new ways of relating to each other, figuring out where the glitches in communication patterns occur, finding forgiveness for past hurt, breaking down walls they've put up, and ultimately reconnecting after years of disconnect.
I understand on a personal level, that working on oneself is not always easy. You must be brave, motivated to heal, and have the strength and self-awareness to seek help. If you have the strength to take these steps, you have the strength within yourself to address your issues and heal your struggles.

Trauma is any adverse experience that causes extreme emotional reaction: nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety etc. When meeting with me many reach their destination feeling guilty for their response to their unique experience — because its “less than” others. As we begin the journey to health and recovery, I assure all that their individual experience is different and unique. Our goal is to get to the point where you know that your feelings/emotions are not better or worse than another’s, as all individuals have a right to their feelings. No trauma is better, worse, harder or easier than another because it depends on how we react.

Many of us go through a process of hoping for change, personal growth or, perhaps, acceptance within ourselves. I'm here to walk that journey with you and help you reach realistic goals to positively impact your daily life. I believe that establishing rapport between a client and therapist is the foundation in providing the best outcome for change. You'll find that my therapeutic approach is empathetic, non-judgmental, and transparent while also incorporating a bit of light-heartedness. I work with a wide variety of clients with specialty populations that include healthcare workers, first responders, and sexual assault survivors.

Does taking a break mean locking yourself in the house after a long day/week just to binge-watch Netflix, Hulu, YouTube or some other streaming service? Do social situations leave you feeling “on-guard” or “out of place”? Feeling disconnected from friends, family, co-workers or even yourself? We help answer the questions "Where do I want to go in life?" - "Who do I want to go there with?"

I offer a safe, supportive environment and have found empathy, understanding and humor are important in building a therapeutic alliance. My abilities are well suited to people with a history of trauma and who are intuitive and creative. Whether you're looking for short term therapy or a deeper process, my skill level applies to both. Each person is unique and I anticipate and enjoy building a relationship that assumes collaboration. I then work with them toward activating their own healing potential, no matter the age. I work well with individuals who have had treatment failures in the past.

YOU CAN FEEL BETTER! Feeling stressed, anxious, depressed? Have troubled relationships? Do you struggle with your child's behavior, attitude or school achievement? Want MORE than talk therapy? My work is strength-based: let's find what is working and improve the areas that are not! In an easy-going and comfortable manner, I use brain science i.e. Brainspotting, Sensorimotor Therapy and Interpersonal Neurobiology (along with a sense of humor) to provide treatment of emotional and behavioral issues in adults, children, couples and families; including psychological assessments for both children and adults.

Did you know that we are biologically wired to seek out connection, understanding and soothing from our fellow human beings? When connection and understanding is not happening with others, we become dysregulated and engage in behaviors that, on the surface, may not make a lot of sense to us. I will help you understand your behaviors and from this place of understanding and acceptance you can make the changes you desire. Emotional and physical safety is one of the most important factors in a successful therapeutic experience. Together we can work to create a relationship in which you feel heard and understood.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
