Trauma and grief are my areas of expertise. If the ways you have been coping no longer work, if pain has shifted into ongoing suffering, or if you feel persistently on edge, stuck, or disconnected from yourself, others, or the world, we may be a good therapy fit. I take time to understand the nuance of your lived experience and integrate that with my clinical knowledge to help you feel grounded, safe, and understood within sessions. From there, we work intentionally to translate that safety into your relationships, choices, and daily life so change feels both meaningful and sustainable.

Awesome! You've made it to this moment. Its not easy to start looking for a therapist but now that you've been clicking on a few profiles you're probably figuring out what vibes for you and what doesn't. My individual and group services focus on adults and adolescents struggling with substance use issues, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress reduction, and transitional/life challenges. This is not stuffy therapy. I've been known to swear from time to time (when appropriate of course!) and been told my style is warm and compassionate, offering an interactive setting for understanding, growth and healing.

Hi! I'm glad you're here! It takes courage to reach out for support, and you’ve already taken an important first step. Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by past trauma, or caught in the stress of high-conflict relationships with family, partners, or co-parents. Others are navigating the challenges of disability—whether their own or a loved one’s—and want a therapist who truly understands and affirms their experience.

If life feels heavier than it should right now, you’re not alone. You might be feeling constantly on edge, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns you’re ready to change. Maybe you’re carrying stress, anxiety, or past experiences that still show up in your daily life. You don’t have to keep holding it all together by yourself. Therapy can be a place to slow down, feel supported, and start finding steadier ground again.

I love my work: helping individuals and couples solve problems, grow and flourish. We grow by learning mastery; to me this means being competent in dealing with yourself and the outside world. I help clients do this by gaining self-knowledge and learning the skills necessary to be empowered to reach their goals and improve their most important relationships. Since starting my practice in 1983 I have been dedicated to helping clients achieve mastery. I take a very active role, and do "what works" for each client, using a variety of treatment approaches.

I specialize in working with individuals navigating complex trauma, anxiety, chronic stress, and mind-body disconnection. I’m a trauma-trained therapist who also identifies as a person with a physical disability, which informs my work in a deeply compassionate, disability-affirming way. Many of my clients come to me wanting a therapist who truly understands the intersection of mental health, trauma, and identity—and who supports healing without forcing a one-size-fits-all approach. My practice centers on creating a space where you can feel grounded, understood, and gently challenged.

It is no light matter deciding to seek therapy. To look with someone at what hurts. To find hope, relief, and perspective, and to grow through this. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with people in many settings including academic medical hospitals, the VA, college counseling, and an American Indian Reservation. I have extensive experience helping individuals with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, PTSD, and life transitions. No matter what brings you to therapy, my goal is to provide a safe, welcoming space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
