Finding a therapist can be hard. Finding a therapist you feel that ‘click’ with can be even harder. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to finding someone you trust enough to help you take that initial leap of faith. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have almost 20 years of experience in this profession. My focus is adults 18+ with depression, anxiety disorders and mood disorders. I also have specialties in trauma and transgender healthcare. I am experienced in assessing readiness for gender affirming surgeries (using the most recent WPATH criteria) and writing letters of readiness for those meeting criteria.

You might be navigating a season of change—becoming a parent, exploring your neurodivergent identity, or noticing anxiety or self-doubt in areas of life that once felt steady. Maybe you're asking deeper questions about who you are, what matters to you, and how to care for yourself while caring for others. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful and reflective. But even with all that insight, it can feel hard to access self-compassion or find space to process everything you’re holding. You might want to feel more connected to yourself, more grounded in your choices, and more confident in your path forward.

In person in my office in Monona with a comforting and calming environment.
My ideal client is someone whom is struggling in life and motivated to seek help and make the changes necessary in their thoughts, beliefs or circumstances to get back into wellness. I enjoy working with teens. Most of my career has been with at risk youth. I also work with women's issues, addressing underlying causes of stress and overwhelm. I use Imago and Gottman approaches with couples. When working with men, we discuss the need for vulnerability and self-acceptance. Anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss can all be successfully addressed with psychotherapy.

I offer in-person as well as telehealth sessions.
To be human is to be fundamentally imperfect. There is no script for us to follow: decisions can be difficult, the unexpected happens, societal pressures are everywhere. It is natural to feel confused and powerless at times. But for some of us these feelings are overwhelming and can persist for weeks, months, and years. When you feel stuck, are dwelling on the past, unable to see any hope for the future, and experiencing little satisfaction from your day to day life, know that you are not alone.

Reaching out for help is a significant step, and I deeply appreciate the vulnerability and leap of faith it takes to enter into a therapeutic relationship. I believe that taking the time to get a true sense of a client’s perspective and lived experience is the first and most important step in addressing the concerns and challenges brought into treatment. Because of this, I strive to fully understand the clients I have the privilege to work with.

I wouldn’t say that I have an ideal client. People come as they are and are at various stages of existence, coping, and living. Therefore, my ideal client is someone who just “comes.” If you. Come, then I’m hopeful that we can find a common ground on which to build.

You’re trying to hold everything together- career, family, relationships, it all feels like too much. The work never ends, your to do list runs on repeat when you’re trying to sleep, rest feels impossible. You’re working so hard, spread thin, and at the same time the work you’re doing is invisible and the demands for more keep coming. Anxiety hums under the surface, irritability replaces joy, you dream of running away. It shows up in your relationship – two good people drifting apart, unsure how to reconnect, resentment creeping in. You worry, am I modeling a healthy relationship for my kids? You long for more balance.

You're stuck. You're ready to change. You don't know how. As a therapist, my goal is to understand you, in all of your complexity, without judgment. I take a validating, direct and warm approach, working to understand what drives your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. From there, I help translate the insights and skills you gain in therapy into meaningful action in your everyday life. I understand that the demands of life and the mental load can feel like barriers to engaging in therapy, so I strive to support your growth at a pace that respects your capacity, needs, and goals.

Therapy available in person near Madison WI, and statewide via telehealth for individuals, couples, and families.
You keep everything together for everyone else, but inside it feels like you’re running on empty. The weight of work, family, and unspoken stress has left little room for you. Therapy is where you get to focus on yourself, reset, and find your footing again. I work with adults navigating stress, trauma, and major transitions, including busy parents and professionals who feel overwhelmed. I’m skilled at addressing relational stress in both individuals and couples, and I guide co-parents in reducing conflict. I also provide focused support for women experiencing peri and menopause. I am licensed in IL and WI.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
