Therapy provides us the opportunity for greater self-discovery and deepened self-understanding. The person I enjoy working with is someone who is genuinely curious about what makes them tick, why they make choices that sink their dreams or sabotage the relationships important to them; but who are also wanting to know their strengths and talents so they can embrace and use them more effectively.

My practice is transforming! I am trained in Writing-Based Psychotherapy and feel both eager and honored to help others experience the profound value writing can bring. My business was born from and sustained by my values - compassion for humanity, oneness, and bringing forth acceptance of the changing nature of this life. It is called "Bearing Witness LLC" because I believe at the heart of therapy is to bear witness to the various expressions of humanity, and to meet each with curiosity and care. It means looking into the eyes of each person and seeing our own reflection there. Then, together, we move towards change.

I love life even when it is difficult, uncertain, and unpredictable. I experience it as a precious gift and live in constant awe of the quiet miracle of existence. I believe in hope, believe in kindness and compassion, and hold an essentially optimistic view of the human spirit. As a practicing professional, I am continually moved by the beauty and depth of psychotherapy. The psyche remains a mystery that can never be fully captured, and yet it endlessly inspires me. For me, psychotherapy is not only a profession—it is a philosophy, a spiritual path, and a way of living with attention, humility, and devotion to inner truth.

Therapy is a place for you to name areas of pain, a place to feel without judgment, and a place to reclaim what is yours. Shame is the source of so much of this pain and judgment, convincing you that you are broken. Shame is often so intertwined with sexuality because of the societal silence around the topic. Perhaps sex is painful, perhaps you are more aware of others desires than your own, perhaps you feel empty from running on fumes and enjoyment is the last thing on your mind. Whatever the reason, engaging your sexual health can help overall wellness, and ultimately be the way back into relationship with yourself!

You are “the strong one,” everyone leans on, confident and grounded in your faith, but deep down, you're struggling to hold yourself together, carrying hidden grief and scars, wondering if anyone sees the fragility behind your strength. Despite being resilient and capable, you constantly adjust to life transitions, unmet expectations, and deal with disappointment, depression, and anxiety. You feel stuck, vulnerable, lack support, and question God's will. You're ready to make a change, get to the root of your problems, let go of past traumas, express emotions without shame, and live life authentically. I want to help you get there.

Clients wanting to optimize their potential and willing to explore effective solutions from Western and Eastern wisdom traditions are my specialty. During my forty plus years working in psychiatric hospitals, leading residential treatment programs, teaching relationship courses for couples and presenting Mind, Body and Spirit healing seminars, helping others heal the core of their issue is my passion. I work with adolescents, adults, families and couples from every orientation. Of course, the LBGT community is welcome. Respectful of every religious orientation, I love working with anyone wanting to unite their physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of their being.

My ideal client is an adolescent girl, woman, or mother—especially a Muslimah or woman of color—navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or identity struggles. She may feel unseen, carry generational pain, or parent through unresolved wounds. She seeks healing that honors her faith and lived experience. Her goal is not just to cope, but to break cycles, build self-worth, set boundaries, and reconnect with a life of dignity, peace, and emotional freedom. She wants a space where she doesn't have to explain everything—just be understood, held, and supported in becoming her full, healed self.

Are you sensitive, emotionally intellegent, yet internally exhausted from relationships that have you doubting yourself. If you've experienced chronic emotional neglect, narcissistic abuse or learned early on to prioritize others at the expense of yourself, you may feel stuck in cycles of over-giving, self-blame, and nervous system overwhelm. I work with adults who are ready to heal at the root level, not just manage symptoms. With over 20 years of clinical experience, I offer a grounded, relational, and body based approach that helps to unwind early childhood trauma, attachment wounds, and chronic nervous system dysregulation.

You might find yourself stuck in familiar patterns—overthinking, people-pleasing, shutting down, or having emotional reactions that don’t fully make sense. You want healthier relationships, clearer communication, and a stronger sense of self, but something keeps pulling you back into old dynamics. You’re likely craving a space that feels safe, grounded, and honest—where you can slow down, understand your emotional world, and make sense of where these patterns began. Together, we can help you build security, confidence, and deeper connection with yourself and others.

The core of my work is creating a safe space where clients can feel heard, respected, and understood. A full and satisfying life is unique to each person; I will collaborate with you as you move toward the life you want to live. Understanding each client's culture, identities, and worldview is central to my approach. Not only is it important to deeply understand you as an individual, but also to explore how factors in the wider environment either promote your well being or intensify your distress. A holistic approach to wellness involves the individual, their relationships, and their wider world.

Life can feel heavy when you’re carrying a lot—responsibilities, expectations, and emotions—often without much space to slow down or feel supported. Many of the people I work with are capable, insightful, and deeply caring, yet feel emotionally drained, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves after spending so long holding everything together. They are often high-functioning but tired of living in survival mode and ready for something steadier and more peaceful.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
