Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming-especially if you've been carrying a lot for a long time. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. Imagine: walking into a space, taking a deep breath and sinking into a couch to talk about what is on your mind with no fear of judgment. Together, we slow things down and get curious about what your nervous system has learned, and how we can gently support it towards healing.

Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself? Do you find yourself trapped in negative patterns or caught in the grip of self-judgment, unable to break free? Do you feel like something isn’t right, or disconnected from your body or emotions, it can be hard to know where to begin. You're not alone—together, we can start the gentle process of healing and recovery. It may feel impossible now, but I often think of this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: "Do the thing you think you cannot do." By taking the step to reach out, you’re choosing to open the door to a safe, nurturing space where you will be valued and supported.

Many people have lived through terrible events that continue to haunt them, such as sexual assaults, war, child abuse, suicide, violence, near-death experiences, and more. Now the nightmares won't stop, and the memories keep popping into your head. You're on edge, jumpy, and can't relax. You might feel guilty or ashamed about what happened or how you responded. You may isolate from others, lash out, use drugs or alcohol, or consider suicide to escape it all. You're likely exhausted by all the effort to push it away and keep moving forward. If this sounds like you, you might be suffering from PTSD.

My Personality: Bold, honest, empathetic, compassionate, articulate, and nerdy. Most of the folks I work with have been dealing with issues for a long time and either starting to want to change or see that they need a change to happen to be where and who they want to be! Nothing is too big or too small to be handled together – trauma, abuse, toxic relationships, harmful coping skills, conflicts at work, self-doubt/growth, and personality disorders. My job is to help you explore where these issues are coming from, what has worked in the past, and what will help you become a new “whole” person in the future.

Therapy is a place for you to name areas of pain, a place to feel without judgment, and a place to reclaim what is yours. Shame is the source of so much of this pain and judgment, convincing you that you are broken. Shame is often so intertwined with sexuality because of the societal silence around the topic. Perhaps sex is painful, perhaps you are more aware of others desires than your own, perhaps you feel empty from running on fumes and enjoyment is the last thing on your mind. Whatever the reason, engaging your sexual health can help overall wellness, and ultimately be the way back into relationship with yourself!

I strive to provide a place of safety and security for those seeking emotional and mental wellness by building meaningful relationships with my clients. I enjoy working with trauma survivors while they find a new way of living with their past. I look at a person from a system perspective. What system (family or otherwise) did you grow up with? What does that look like now? What changes can you make in your system to create healthier boundaries and more meaningful relationships? Important note: Please text or email me to attempt to schedule. To be very honest, I forget I even I have a voicemail sometimes.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
