Often people learn to feel shame or guilt over parts of their identity that are core to who they are. These beliefs form an emotional pain that can destabilize our view of ourselves and the world around us, creating deeper feelings of depression and anxiety. Finding ways to navigate these beliefs and feelings is not always easy, and frequently the ways we learn to cope have additional costs that we aren't aware of. If you struggle with aspects of your identity and with the stories you have been told about them, I invite you to reach out and consult.

With over 25 years in the mental health field and 18 years in private practice, I offer a multitude of personal and professional experience. Much of our suffering is due to dissatisfaction in relationships. Sadly, many relationships end prematurely when we are most hurt and emotionally vulnerable. However, this is when the intimacy we lacked prior has the potential to break through finally. I give you tools and insight to heal old wounds that hold you back from experiencing the love you seek within yourself and others. Together we address the intrapsychic conflicts and longings of the soul. Licensed in WI and NC.

Are you experiencing voices that others don't hear or beliefs that others struggle to understand? Whether it's unseen observers describing your day, a sense of impending doom, or hidden meanings in ordinary events—these experiences can be profoundly isolating. You might find your voices offer companionship or insight, while at other times they become harsh critics or frightening presences. Maybe you've noticed everyday sounds transforming into words or mumbles, or felt so cautious in public spaces that you feel exhausted. Though these experiences are more common than many realize, navigating them alone can be overwhelming.

My therapeutic approach combines person centered therapy with aspects of cognitive behavioral (CBT), solutions focused, and dialectical-behavioral (DBT) therapies. This means we will implement skills for emotion regulation, communication, and facing anxiety while also making space to talk about your experiences.

You're the one people go to for support because you seem like you have it all together. Underneath, however, is a different story. You're barely hanging on. Everyday stressors are overwhelming you. Feeling depressed, hopeless, and anxious are your new norms. You may feel uncomfortable in your own skin and use substances or restrictions as a way to cope. You may feel fearful and stuck because of a traumatic experience. Humans are naturally resilient, but in an attempt to adapt we can fall into unhealthy cycles that keep us from realizing our potential. We aren't always equipped with the necessary skills to navigate life's challenges.

No matter where our pain originates, big or small, it leaves a mark. It feels like it forces us to carry things that no longer serve us. What if you could drop it all and leave it behind? Imagine this: That first moment where you recognize that you do not need to be defined by your pain. You're probably closer to it than you think, and together, we can help you cross that finish line and live your best, most fulfilling life. I am passionate about working with people struggling with single-event or complex trauma, depression, and the pain that comes with being a human being. I also provide LGBTQ+, poly, and gender affirming services.

Our worldviews are made up of stories: about ourselves, others, the ways we engage with people, and the ways we move through the world. I'm fascinated by the mutual influence of individual perspective and shared experience, as well as the ways societal norms both limit and support individuals and relationships. How are you influencing and being influenced by others? What aspects of your story do you wish were different? How do you want to be known, and move through the world? "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer! Let's explore and see what we discover.

Hello and welcome! I work with individuals 18+ who seek to find more effective ways to navigate life’s challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, identity issues, relationship conflicts, and difficult transitions. In my practice, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a method that fosters psychological flexibility. This process reduces the impact of these unhelpful inner experiences and frees up space to act in accordance with your chosen values and ultimately live a more fulfilling life.

Sex-Positive, Kink Allied Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

A sex-positive or kinky individual may want to see a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist because the client may feel safer and more supported discussing their experiences and challenges. A therapist who identifies as kink-friendly will have experience with clients having diverse sexual preferences and will likely be nonjudgmental and supportive about issues brought to the table. It is important to note that sex-positive, kink-allied individuals may find equal success with therapists who do not have such specialized knowledge and background. The most important factor in the success of therapy is for the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in sex-positive, kink-allied treatment?

Generally, no. There are limited training programs and unofficial accreditations that therapists can pursue, but a therapist’s expertise will ultimately come from their previous experience with similar clients, their engagement with organizations that promote sex positivity or kink-allied lifestyles, and the importance they place on safety and cultural sensitivity.

How can individuals recognize a good sex-positive, kink-allied therapist?

An experienced therapist is able to help clients explore their sexual identity and expression and relieve any discomfort or stigma attached to discussing such matters and the client’s overall challenges. A therapist who is sex-positive and kink-allied is able to create an environment that honors a client’s experience and sexual preferences. To recognize a good therapist, clients can simply ask directly about topics and issues important to them and gauge their comfort level and connection with a clinician based on the responses.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist with a focus on sex positivity and alternative sexual lifestyles?

Some individuals may feel most comfortable knowing that the clinician they’re working with has a commitment to creating an atmosphere of sex positivity and has experience with relationship diversity and alternative relationship structures. Working with a sex-positive, kink-allied therapist may help clients respect their own challenges and improve identity-affirming treatment.
