I am traditionally trained with modalities such as DBT, CBT, Narrative Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
Moth Wellness is a place for individuals who are deep feelers, identify as sensitive yet tough, and ones whose mind can think about everything all at once. Moth Wellness caters to individuals who balance many different roles throughout their day; individuals who may be finding it hard to express themselves, feel confident in the choices they make, and might be experiencing the burden of self-doubt and internal self-criticism. You might feel an ache of pressure in your body, chest tightening, and a tension throughout your shoulders all while trying to build a sense of identity and trust in yourself.

I specialize in helping high-achieving individuals navigate the complex relationship between anxiety and substance use. I work with clients who are in recovery and those that exist in the "gray area" of substances—where you may not need a detox center, but you know your relationship with substances is no longer serving you. I won't just nod and listen; I will actively help you build a toolkit to handle life’s stressors with clarity and confidence.

Normal is a setting on a dryer. We are all unique and valid with vast minds. We all have different situations and I believe in using those pieces to heal and build strength. While I specialize in trauma, neurodivergence, addiction, and mood, our struggles are usually not that one note or simple. I focus on all aspects of who you and where you want to be, building a strong relationship based on empathy, trust and non judgement. Life is rough, we lose sight of our way, stop seeing the beauty, forget who we are, feel stuck or changed. It takes courage to be vulnerable and reality is we are imperfectly perfect.

I use a variety of approaches in patient care, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, radically open dialectical behavior therapy, and schema therapy.
Clients with struggle with issues of emotional overcontrol. When feeling "emotionally uncomfortable," some of us might lash out, and others of us might shut down. The type that shuts down might get very quiet, or say everything is fine when it is not fine, and be very uncomfortable with the idea that others might know what is going on in their heads.

I am currently accepting a limited number of new clients living in Tennessee, Florida, Arizona, and Wisconsin for weekday daytime telehealth appointments. My mission is for each client to find their true self and voice and see that so many of our negative storylines and scripts are just programming we have picked up throughout our lives. My heart is to follow each client's lead on where he or she needs to go versus my own agenda and/or preferences. I believe that it is in allowing space for our experiences of our full humanity that we realize that at our most fundamental level our essence is actually good and true.

You may be the person others rely on—the one who stays composed, completes the mission, and keeps moving. Yet trauma, chronic stress, grief, moral injury, anxiety, depression, relationship strain, or the pressure of a high-responsibility role may be taking a toll. I work with adults, especially veterans, first responders, military-connected individuals, and others accustomed to pushing through, to restore stability, regain direction, and build a life guided by purpose rather than survival.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
