My approach to psychotherapy is reflective, curious, and non-judgmental. First and foremost, my job is to listen to you in ways that help you understand yourself, your experiences, and your relationships more deeply. You may be feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, unfulfilled, disconnected from loved ones, uncertain about the future, or you may simply have a general feeling that something is off for you.

I’m a trauma-informed therapist with over five years of experience supporting children, teens, adults, and families navigating emotional distress, behavioral patterns, and addictive patterns. My integrative approach draws from CBT, DBT, attachment, and trauma-focused work, grounded in curiosity, compassion, and embodied awareness. I believe healing comes not just through insight, but through connection to one’s inner experience, wisdom of the body, and external environment. I help clients explore the felt sense of their emotions, reclaim lost or exiled parts of themselves, and cultivate deeper self-understanding and growth.

I received my PhD from UW-Madison, and have completed specialized training in psychoanalytic therapy and complex trauma.
Welcome! I view symptoms as messengers of deeper emotional truths that have yet to be acknowledged and felt. Oftentimes, the more we try to avoid or resist them, the stronger they insist on being heard. Through your earliest relationships, you learned which pieces of yourself to hide to maintain connection; which emotions were safe to express; and what to expect from others. Over time, these patterns internalized and became the way you relate to yourself and others. You might have learned to suppress your anger, to feel responsible for others’ actions, or that closeness results in disappointment.

For more than three decades I have brought my passion and experience as a clinical psychologist to facilitate healing, growth, and transformation in the clients whom I work with. My work is guided by my belief that we are all driven by a need to individuate - to become who we are capable of being. I realize that many of the problems that arise in our lives can cause the emotional pain and suffering that compromise these efforts. This is difficult life work, and while these experiences can feel overwhelming, they can also become openings for personal transformation when explored in a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship.

We all deserve the chance to live a fulfilling, balanced life. Just as we tend to our physical well-being, our mental and emotional health deserves our attention and care. In a world that often prioritizes perfection and productivity over personal well-being, it's important to remind ourselves that our mental health is a necessity. I will guide you to become more compassionate with yourself. It's about recognizing that it's okay to struggle, to make mistakes, and feel vulnerable.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 20 years of experience. I am based in Chippewa Falls, WI, and meet with clients statewide via telehealth. I genuinely love empowering clients in the development of new tools to help them realize their strengths and cope with past or current challenges while simultaneously living authentic and meaningful lives. I take great pride in the relationship-building process, believing that Teddy Roosevelt said it best - "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
