Clients have come to see me for counseling with a variety of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, stress management, anger management, PTSD, and ADHD. My treatment approach is to help individuals reach their goals by using evidence-based methods and techniques. That means, from a client-centered perspective, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), desensitization, mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), and positive psychology when it is necessary and appropriate to suite the individual's needs.

Many of us struggle daily with issues like anxiety, stress, depression, anger or just feeling misunderstood. We may feel stuck and ashamed at our inability to just will ourselves into being "better". This internal suffering is so common, but the good news is we all possess an internal capacity for change. It hurts to feel "stuck", but making changes can also be hard to do on our own. I have years of experience working with folks with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addiction, stress and other personal challenges. I am specially trained and committed to supporting clients in the LGBTQ community and immigrant populations.

Making impactful, long-lasting change can be difficult. Draining mental health symptoms, substance use, and trauma can contribute to making positive lasting change feel like an impossible and daunting task. I understand the importance of wanting to find that immediate relief, as well as identifying and treating the root of the problem. An essential part of our work is exploring the past and making connections between the past and present. I enjoy getting to know my clients as individuals, assisting them in their journey of learning about themselves, and helping them learn the skills they need to live a more meaningful life.

Normal is a setting on a dryer. We are all unique and valid individuals with vast minds. We all have different situations and I believe in using those pieces to heal and build strength. While I specialize in trauma, addiction, and mood, our struggles are usually not that one note or simple. I focus on all aspects of who you and where you want to be, building a strong relationship based on empathy, trust and non judgement. Life is rough, we lose sight of our way, stop seeing the beauty, forget who we are, feel stuck or changed. It takes courage to be vulnerable and reality is we are imperfectly perfect.

We all have strengths and weaknesses. In my practice, I like to uncover and nurture the many strengths that my clients possess. I encourage my clients to use these strengths to their advantage and to continually uncover additional strengths and resilience. Within my therapeutic approach, I use a variety of theories and modalities to assist in understanding and treating clients. I use existential and psychoanalytic theories which consider a person’s childhood experiences, attachments, and the deeper question of creating meaning in life.

The good traits of a therapist include the ability to empathize with an individual's need or problem. I believe possessing effective listening skill is number one in providing a supportive nonjudgmental space for clients. I have been providing counseling and coaching services for many years and have yet to tire of the opportunity to connect with individuals on a soulful level. I begin my day asking how I can be of maximum service to God and others.

A queer and anti-patriarchal therapist, I practice sex therapy, individual therapy, and couples therapy in southeastern Wisconsin. I help clients ages 16-70 with issues in individual mental health, sex and sexuality, relationships, and family dynamics. Using a radically body- and sex-positive approach, I help people with sexual concerns including sexual pain, desire and arousal issues, out of control sexual behavior, difficulty with orgasm, healthy sex after trauma, polyamory, swinging, kink, gender & orientation discovery. Cultural humility and racial justice are very important to me. Health at Every Size aligned.

Lately you have been feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or sad. You have tried hard to manage it on your own, but as hard as you try, you still don't feel how you want. You just want to be able to live your life instead of having this issue get in the way. You just need someone to listen to you without judging you. You want a safe space to talk and be heard so that you can figure out how to deal with the things that have been bothering you.

“We are all born so beautiful The greatest tragedy is being convinced we are not” - Rupi Kaur I specialize in working with individuals and couples looking to reconnect with your unique beauty. Find your voice. Gain understanding and compassion. Create changes to embrace who you are at your core; individually and as a couple. Disconnection can look different in all of us. It can look like apathy, feeling hopeless, increased conflict with loved ones, and loss of your voice.

I offer coaching to sensitive women who desire a more sane approach to dating and relationships. They want meaningful connection but struggle to find it. They want to enjoy themselves more and be in their heads less. They want to have better boundaries, better choices of who and what they give their attention to, and better self-talk as they navigate the ins and outs of relationships. They feel over-sensitive; are questioning their life choices; are realizing they want to feel more confidence, connection, and joy.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
