I will use the skills I've learned in my time at my master's program (ex: cognitive behavioral therapy and positive psychology) to help, but I will adjust my plan of care based on the individual needs of each client.
Are you experiencing a difficult time or difficult emotions and looking to learn new ways of coping? Or are you looking to let out your emotions in a safe space? I can be here with you every step of the way of your healing journey. We can work together to help you better understand yourself and what you want in your life. I want to help you to see the best in who you are and learn to practice self-care and embody self-love. In a world full of interconnectedness via social media, it can be difficult to connect with ourselves. I hope to help you learn to be happy being 100% authentically you!

My practice integrates: CBT, positive psychology, mindfulness, and holistic approaches.
Life gets difficult. -Our distress may make us uncomfortable, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, sad or depressed. -Maybe we have experienced job loss, a big move, had a significant relationship end, or experienced a major shift, change, or transition in our life. -Really, we want to feel "better" and "happier", but how do we get there? Short-term counseling or coaching can help, while sometimes we needed to address deeper pain and patterns in long-term psychotherapy. Each of us is different, but maybe you found your way here because you are ready to let go, ready to grow, and ready for something new, different, and better for your life.

Clients have come to see me for counseling with a variety of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, stress management, anger management, PTSD, and ADHD. My treatment approach is to help individuals reach their goals by using evidence-based methods and techniques. That means, from a client-centered perspective, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), desensitization, mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), and positive psychology when it is necessary and appropriate to suite the individual's needs.

Everyone has a time when they need support and struggle with asking for help. I know this from my own experience and interactions with others. When someone comes to me, I want to be sure that they know that I understand first the difficulty in deciding to ask for help and second that they feel safe enough to trust me with their story, thoughts, and emotions.

While I work with clients of all ages and needs, I spend a lot of time working with teenagers and young adults with depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders. I enjoy providing a safe space for clients of this age range to develop coping skills, discuss identity and self-esteem and address life changes and transitions. I enjoy assisting clients through past and present struggles and bringing both of these together to reach client goals. I believe that it can be difficult to work on the past if there are present day struggles taking precedent and help clients address immediate stressors or symptoms first.

Making impactful, long-lasting change can be difficult. Draining mental health symptoms, substance use, and trauma can contribute to making positive lasting change feel like an impossible and daunting task. I understand the importance of wanting to find that immediate relief, as well as identifying and treating the root of the problem. An essential part of our work is exploring the past and making connections between the past and present. I enjoy getting to know my clients as individuals, assisting them in their journey of learning about themselves, and helping them learn the skills they need to live a more meaningful life.

Are you looking for something different in your therapy experience? You've been to therapy and increased your self-awareness. Yet, you feel deep in your bones that something is missing. You’re looking for a genuine connection to help you transform. You feel stuck and know you want more but can't pinpoint what's wrong. You’ve been doing the 'supposed' right thing and are back at square one. You want to find a way to express yourself, but you’re thinking: “I'm too much, or I can't say what I feel; they might leave” You want to let go of the worry that keeps you from being your real self. You're ready for long-lasting change.

Normal is a setting on a dryer. We are all unique and valid individuals with vast minds. We all have different situations and I believe in using those pieces to heal and build strength. While I specialize in trauma, addiction, and mood, our struggles are usually not that one note or simple. I focus on all aspects of who you and where you want to be, building a strong relationship based on empathy, trust and non judgement. Life is rough, we lose sight of our way, stop seeing the beauty, forget who we are, feel stuck or changed. It takes courage to be vulnerable and reality is we are imperfectly perfect.

“Hope is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words-and never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson. Hope begins the journey for each of us to become the person we want to be. With positive unconditional regard and someone who listens, we humans naturally gravitate to feel comfort in who we are. We move toward health, self discovery, and compassion for ourselves and others. I’m passionate about being part of each person’s journey, focusing on each individual’s strengths and resilience. My approach to psychotherapy is to help my clients understand their conflicts by getting at the roots of their wounds, so they are able to treat themselves with self-compassion and healing. The goal of therapy is to not only unburden the pain one carries, but to help transform inner negative beliefs and cultivate radical self-love.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
