I help adults and adolescents living with anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and related disorders to regain control of their lives using a collaborative and goal-based approach.
If anxiety and fear are constant companions, life probably feels like an uphill battle. Living with relentless-intrusive thoughts, scary images, and illness & mental health fears is exhausting. Being pregnant, a new parent or adolescent adds additional contributing factors like hormonal changes, stress, and responsibility, which can make symptoms worse. Working with me, you will gain a better understanding of what is happening, reduce anxiety, fear, shame, and learn helpful tools and coping skills to manage and regain self-trust.

At The Practice MKE, we offer individual therapy for women experiencing anxiety, OCD, stress and autism support.
Feeling absolutely mentally exhausted at the end of the day? Feeling on edge and constantly overthinking, replaying events or scenarios that happened in your day? Feeling stuck in those rigid rituals that you can’t seem to break. Now more than ever, individuals are feeling overwhelmed or uncertain about how to get through the day without feeling drained or stuck. We believe it shouldn't be so hard to get through the day, only to feel mentally and physically exhausted at the end of the day.

I take a person-centered, strengths-based approach to meet clients where they are and address what they feel is impacting their lives the most. I believe building a strong relationship is the foundation of therapy, this is done by maintaining a non-judgmental stance and unconditional positive regard. The thing I love most about being a therapist is watching my clients grow and having the opportunity to be part of their journey. I pride myself on the passion I have for what I do, and how that translates into my ability to advocate for my clients.

I specialize in helping clients with anxiety, OCD, relationship issues, and life dissatisfaction.
You've worked hard to accomplish your goals, do the right thing, and set up a life that makes you feel proud. Lately you're wondering if it was all for nothing because instead of feeling happy you feel overwhelmed, anxious and burned out. The life you've worked so hard for no longer feels good. Instead it feels stressful. If this sounds like you- you're not alone, and therapy can help.

The core of my work is creating a safe space where clients can feel heard, respected, and understood. A full and satisfying life is unique to each person; I will collaborate with you as you move toward the life you want to live. Understanding each client's culture, identities, and worldview is central to my approach. Not only is it important to deeply understand you as an individual, but also to explore how factors in the wider environment either promote your well being or intensify your distress. A holistic approach to wellness involves the individual, their relationships, and their wider world.

I specialize in treating OCD and anxiety.
When treating OCD, I use elements of ERP and psychodynamic treatment together. This integrated approach targets the symptoms of OCD, while also revealing its underlying causes. I find that this approach can help my clients understand how their symptoms relate to their past experiences, ultimately leading to a more sustainable recovery from OCD.

I utilize Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in the treatment of PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Behavioral Activation (BA) for depression, and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD.
Over the past twelve years I have worked in the mental health field in a variety of capacities, including inpatient units, residential facilities, and day treatment settings. My experience and training with adolescents, adults, and families in these settings has given me a practical knowledge and understanding when working alongside my clients to facilitate change. A significant part of my experience has been working with adults and adolescents coping with past trauma to adjust and move past stuck points, decrease depression, and move forward on the life they want to live.

I am honored to be a person with whom friends, colleagues and clients have trusted to share their stories and trials and triumphs of life. I believe that our shared connections, compassion and authenticity are precious gifts to our health and wellness. The ups and downs of life often get in the way of becoming our best selves. I love working with clients who are struggling to find that voice of authenticity that’s been hidden by loneliness, comparing themselves to an impossible ideal, or even years of trauma and abuse. Together, we’ll work in collaboration, incorporating connection to mind and body to reclaim a sense of wholeness.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
