Supporting women throughout IL & WI navigating anxiety, grief, loss, & big life changes.
Are you looking for something different in your therapy experience? You've been to therapy and gained your self-awareness skills. Yet, you feel deep in your bones that something is missing. You’re looking for a genuine connection to help you transform. You feel stuck and know you want more but can't pinpoint what's wrong. You’ve been doing the 'supposed' right thing and are back at square one. You want to find a way to express yourself, but you’re thinking: “I'm too much, or I can't say what I feel; they might leave” You want to let go of the worry that keeps you from being your real self. You're ready for long-lasting change.

Grief is also an area of expertise where I help others navigate life transitions, loss, and bereavement that leaves them feeling like they haven't been themselves since.
I utilize two evidence-based modalities. Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy (TLDP) helps unveil and work on chronic, pervasive, dysfunctional patterns to achieve new experiences and new understandings. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) helps process and heal from traumatic experiences by accessing and reprocessing distressing memories.

My approach is grounded in theoretical orientations including person-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, emotionally focused therapy for individuals, and mindful self-compassion. These frameworks allow me to tailor our work together to help you understand yourself more deeply, with kindness and honesty.

I work with a broad range of mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, anger, grief and loss.
I know from my own experience how difficult it is to take the first step toward getting help. Once you've done that, you must face the difficult task of choosing a therapist. This is a very important and personal decision since the success of treatment is dependent on the client/therapist relationship. I believe the therapist/client relationship should be a collaborative one where we work as a team toward your goals.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
